Oh, I never disagreed about “unskilled labor” I tried to make that clear in my first comment, perhaps I failed in that. As I said “unskilled labor” is a term used to denigrate essential work that society chooses to look down on.
That said, that wages are often low in these work areas is a function of labor competition rather than capitalists or capitalism seeking an excuse to pay poverty wages.
That such low wages exists and insomuch as the workers can join and leave voluntarily (ie they are not slaves, waged or otherwise) suggests that there are people who can achieve more than subsistence on such pay. This is simply the nature of labor competition.
So perhaps we are in argumentative agreement here overall 😂

I think trade and mutual exchange are the bedrock of capitalism. I think capitalism gets confused with government. In many ways I see capitalism and government as forces work in opposition to each other. Society’s choice, then, is how we balance between them.

Well in the present America system, massive subsidies to large industrial farm operations have made small farming unprofitable. This is certainly a distortion - but I would argue that this is socialist/corporatist or otherwise fundamentally non-free market distortion (even as the government that perpetrates it and the large farmer operations who receive the funds all think of themselves as “capitalist”).
So essentially these large farmers, buoyed by theft and redistribution are freed from true competitive market forces and begin to operate as quasi monopolies and territory controlled enclosures. This dramatically lowers the bargaining power of agricultural workers, I’d argue suppressing the wage ceiling more than impacting the wage floor.
However even under these conditions, if there is someone willing to work for less, it is because they have means / tactics / are willing to make sacrifices to do more with less either immediately or over the long term. Even if there was a more healthy and dynamic spread of small, medium, and large farmer operations for agricultural workers to choose from, this would not eliminate that they may still be someone willing to do the same work at sufficient quality for less.
The death of the living wage is the result of money printing, central planning, an redistribution from the bottom up - call it socialism if you’re right leaning, call it corporatism if you’re left leaning - but not the result of “capitalist scheming”

On one hand I kind of agree with this, on the other hand I think the deeper truth is that wages - be they low or high - are more a function of “Is there an alternative person or machine who will do this job at sufficient quality for a lower wage / lower cost”
The term “unskilled labor” disparages the social contributions of work that society looks down on even though this work is necessary for society to function. However the low wages don’t exist because of capitalist scheming, but because of fair (or overall fair) market competition and economic progress.

Yeah, alot of energy went into and is thus expressed by this one. I’m not making prints of this one so stays fully 1/1 for the person it was gifted too but I will be doing more crosses (probably as a series at some point) and I do commissions for this type of maze as well.

This maze is titled T I M E and is a piece that I made for my mentor - 𝗧 𝗜 𝗠 𝗘 stands in reference to his daily prayer “𝘛𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘛𝘏𝘖𝘜𝘎𝘏𝘛, 𝘐𝘔𝘗𝘓𝘜𝘚𝘌, 𝘔𝘖𝘔𝘌𝘕𝘛, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘌𝘟𝘗𝘌𝘙𝘐𝘌𝘕𝘊𝘌 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘊𝘈𝘗𝘛𝘐𝘝𝘌 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘋.”
The maze’s starting point is the golden sphere at the base of the Cross. It is designed as a “closed maze” in that the starting point is fully contained within the maze itself to symbolize the all-encompassing nature of the Creator.
The red around the outer ring that frames the Cross is symbolic of Christ’s sacrifice for humanity. There are 7 large red “droplets” that drip down to signify “all things in Christ,” while also evoking the 7 Days of Creation and the 7 Heavenly Bodies that can be perceived with the naked eye (Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Moon, Mars, and Jupiter). Further, the 7 smaller dripping “dots” found between the droplets are there to remind us of the wider and unknowable mysteries of God and Creation.
Throughout the work there are found many groupings of 3 which are reference to the Holy Trinity and also to the astronomical trinity of Sun, Earth, and Moon. The 4 spheres found in each segment of the Cross speak to the 4 quarters of the Moon, the 4 phases of life, the 4 directions of the compass, and the 4 elements (Fire, Air, Water, Earth) which frame man’s understanding of the natural world and are the foundation of the natural sciences and technological progress. Finally, considering the concept of 𝗧 𝗜 𝗠 𝗘 in the literal sense, the 3 rings that frame the center of the Cross are reference to Past, Present, and Future all held within the Oneness of God.

Alien Romulus is the Alien franchise reaching the “Rogue One” Disney+/Netflix direct release stage of the timeline, not realizing this and still releasing in theatres.
The movie was not bad so much as it was predictable. Scrappy, ragtag and obligatorily diverse low budget cast, “twists” telegraphed from 10000 parsecs away, highly contained and unambitious plot, muted / watered down gore and eroticism. An R movie that is really a PG-13 movie.
I have and continue to maintain that we seem to have been robbed of the timeline where Prometheus served as the first of several movies exploring the deeper mysteries of the Alien universe while being otherwise unrelated from the previous movies’ plots. Perhaps this will be corrected in the future but Alien: Covenant and Alien: Romulus have not been it…

Hmm…interesting. Yeah I haven’t noticed a decline in general search like what you’re describing most of my search on Google still renders relevant and precise content. That said, I have noticed other issues like - searching for a source video used to return YouTube references (which work me) and now everything is spanned with TikTok links which I refuse to engage with.
When thinking about news content. My resting position is that everything that finds me via social media is doctored / manipulated as a minimum. So if something seems particularly shocking or emotive I’ll take the time to see if it’s real (it usually isn’t or the thing is real but to a far lesser degree than what is being proposed).
If I’m seeing something BBC, WSJ, Aljazeera, or SCMP, I’ll rate it more highly but still take the resting bias of the source into consideration. I’ll also often search at those sources directly to subvert google’s filtering.
Finally I’ve taken a hard stance of balancing everything that’s being pushed in the news against the empirical evidence of my lived social life outside my home. And it is at still point, almost to a rule, that the media narrative on any side, completely breaks down.

I can reject “judged” / standardized breakdancing and still celebrate it being in the Olympics for those who do love to break but have a different opinion than mine. I feel like the Olympics will only get sillier and more corrupt and more nonsensical as time goes on and fiat breaks down.

Yes, but at the same time cultures like Skateboarding, Breaking, Capeoria all have deep roots in being antithetical to and high antagonistic towards hierarchal capture and standardization. I can tell you if the best capoeira was in the Olympics it would be DAZZLING. But just BEING in the Olympics would dissuade many of the best Capoeiristas from pursuing the Olympic competition either on philosophical / ideological grounds or on the grounds of not wanting to submit to the wider scrutiny of any committee that we assess whether they were the kind of person who could be “eligible” to compete which touches on all kinds of stuff FAR beyond the pure athletic skill. I’d would not be surprised if a similar mindset existed amongst real street breakers as well.
The beauty of skateboarding, breaking, Capoeira - too me - is that they DO NOT CARE about one’s wider relationship with “the law” and they have all had outlaw periods (which they embrace) were the practice and/or the community you’d associate with during the practice was likely to bring one trouble with the law just because.
So here I’m probably making a similar point as you but directing to the judging and organization, as I can only assume that the judge panel for Olympic breaking is a bunch of European sports academics rather than real breakers or folks who might have actual rap sheets and such. I could be wrong, but a quick personal vibe check on the Olympics tells me that I’m probably not 😂.

All valid points here too. Though I, personally, generally reject the idea of “scored” breakdancing philosophically. I more come from the decentralized anarchist camp of diasporic resistance / expression practices. So yes, I was projecting some of my own philosophical stances onto the wider topic where any number of other practitioners are fully free to established their own consensus rules for judging the sport. And I am similarly free to reject the idea through non-participation.
Additionally I would argue that Capoeira’s reach, on the ground, is similarly broad globally as breakdancing - thought American popular cultural has been far more successful promoting the former in the public mind than Brazil has been with the latter - and I guess that’s what matters 😄.
The beauty of sports though, is that irrespective of the ideological intentions of the organizers - ie them being wokelords or racists or chauvinists - performance on the ground doesn’t lie. And also you know I’m not wrong in saying that bad breakdancing is easy to spot but trying to call objective “judgeable” differences in different styles of very good / great breaking is much harder to do (though yes, you are correct, social consensus can easily allow this to still happen)

And there are certainly better breakers in AUS 😂
Also I think the bigger issue with breaking as an Olympic sport that is an art form out of the African diasporic tradition - where being the “best” favors improvisation and a purposeful disregard of hierarchical standardization. Everything is unwritten and while being the “best” in breaking is highly subjective, being bad at it is objective in the visceral sense.
This is why we don’t have Olympic Orisha drumming or Olympic Capeoria.

My point though is learning how to ride the wave. Confidence and a willingness to fail is exactly the kind of fuck you energy that is required to even attempt something like this. That the system is broken is not her fault. People everywhere would get further - and via increased competition, also find themselves humbled - if they led more with that kind of energy.
