An important part of my self-care involves intentionally limiting my exposure to partisan political content. This has led me to reduce my use of social media. It has also meant that I've developed a thicker skin in that accusations of being "part of the problem" because "silence is complicit" (or worse) don't bug me like they used to.

I haven’t found a way to use most social media platforms that doesn’t leave me feeling like I’ve been doom scrolling. Filters help, especially robust ones like what Mastodon offers, but that's only a partial solution.

I've been surprised to see news organizations like Mississippi Free Press posting on Mastodon without using hashtags. I'm still learning how it all works, but I had assumed that hashtags would be helpful for content discovery.

Many Christians seem to think that belief operates like a light switch. They tell atheists that we should "just believe." Belief has never worked that way for me, but maybe Christians can make themselves believe whatever they wish.

I'm a liberal #atheist living in #Mississippi who uses social media to maintain connections to the reality-based community. I view Christian extremism as a threat to democracy and believe that religious freedom must include freedom from religion.
