I really needed to slow down a bit in my life. Fewer distractions, less hours on the phone, more awareness. The thing that has helped me so far is an e-book reader that my mum gave me. You just sit and read and you can't do much else. It's really relaxing. I've also started borrowing one (online) newspaper a day from my local library, just to browse and see what's new in the world, read articles thoroughly and then close the app. (1/2)

I think what we need as an always-on society, bombarded day and night with notifications of all kinds, is a defined start and stop to the things we do. We need blocks of activities that we start and finish at a certain point. Our brains need these blocks to help them process. It's really helpful to think of it as a little way of slowing down and being more aware. (2/2)

How is Gretchen still a common name in the US? For Germans it sounds someone was last named like this about 200 years ago.
