In Scottish legend, baobhan sith are fairies who appear as beautiful young women to seduce travelers with their kisses and and then drink their blood. They can turn into ravens, and have deer hooves instead of feet, which are usually concealed by their dress.

In Roman mythology, the sculptor Pygmalion fell in love with the beautiful statue he'd carved out of ivory alabaster. He even began to woo it. The goddess Venus was so touched by Pygmalion's passion that the next time he kissed the statue, she turned it into a real woman.
