@npub1788…9nku between this, universal connectivity, and smart cities, there is a 21st century way of living emerging in China and east Asia as a whole. A differently organized, but also very promising, future is happening in cities and towns in Europe. As for the US, I do think it really could look a lot more like Afghanistan by the end of the century...

@npub1nxt…055a the "problem" of "scale" here may now be solvable. Persistent internet connections everywhere, speakers, etc. However, what we got is not the "one state" big brother, but rather thousands of corporate little sisters potentially able to snitch everyone out. AI may yet one day be able to turn that trash pile of noise into targeted state prosecutions, though. So I would argue it is still a predictive possibility.

As soon as it became technologically feasible, aging ultra-wealthy women were getting their bodies replaced, becoming cybernetic Barbies.
The re-assembly of a person became simple plug and play. Part by part organs and limbs were replaced by cybernetic systems.
The Barbies were the new celebs re-defining fashion and lifetime aging limits.
It did take awhile, but eventually the first Kens started happening, too.

@npub1nxt…055a It was morning and Frank crawled in from the meadow-lands to start another days work.
A quick sugar-ball and some nectar would get the day going for Frank. It was a rather common job in what was called the garage state.
It was the summer buzzing season, too, and the vehicles were lined up waiting for fuel.
Most most other places all insects had to pump their own gas, but not in this state. Jersey gyne's don't pump gas, but they do kick ass.

He did not see other children when he was young, and he did not see any other people when he was old. He traveled the world in those goggles, or at least a version of it that used to exist, the sky now always a dark poisonous orange and the cities long abandoned. His death was sudden, and his goggles remain on the table offering a world that is no more.

The Martian earth woman recruiting project never seemed to work out. Usually the potential candidates went away screaming, and the earth's various militaries kept attacking the martian saucers.
On the other hand, the Venusians had no problems at all. Adopting to Earth customs they rolled out a campaign using Venusian pinup girls and hired the very best advertising agency, McMann and Tate. Men were jumping into their ships.

@npub1788…9nku The "American dream" of class mobility used to be more common. It is now much higher in Europe, while the US now around the same as Brasil. We could now speak instead of the "European dream" ;). Or, in this example, the target has been shrunk considerably, and moved further back, too. Rich kids get darts with fins, poor kids get crumpled paper for their one throw against the wind. And they have recently added a fan, too.

But tech as a whole still remains a largely white privileged male exclusive endeavor, and the community too often does live in a kind of privilege bubble within that. Questions of software freedom are questions of broader human freedom and dignity, too. It is as an idea a challenge to many forms of institutional power, yet often tries to be their friend.

@npub1zpu…qh6x my concern is what's the future of opensuse/suse after leap 15? Everything I read from the roadmap suggests stable enterprise rpm releases will be abandoned after leap 15 in favor of alp and micro os style containers or rolling releases of tumbleweed. This does not fit my more device centric long-term stable paradigm very well.

@npub1zpu…qh6x much like centos once did (and some of the centos/rh clones still may do), opensuse does offer extraordinarily long stable lifecycles as well as a very close match with suse releases. There are other reasons why I think suse/opensuse is actually also a far better distro pair than rhel/centos ever was, but that at least I think is the one centos users may care most about.
