I feel so helpless when it comes to a lot of things in my life right now.
Things aren't necessarily going the way i'd hoped with a lot of things and I can't do anything to change that and it sucks.
I feel Fedi is going under some sort of corporate control recently with the way the SWF is funded.
Politics everywhere and everyone fighting and hating each other.
People dying in wars that don't need to happen. Friends fearing for their lives while living in countries where those wars are taking place.
Things just suck and the only thing I can control is how to handle the Fediverse situation. Obviously I haven't been posting recently and that's why. I just don't feel as positive about the platform as I once was.
It almost makes me want to move to Nostr but there's barely anyone there besides crypto peeps and that's such a small part of my life.🤷‍♂️
I hope SWF proves me wrong. I really do.
The rest...well, I have absolutely no control over and it's all draining me emotionally.

I did watch this ridiculous YouTube video series where a kick streamers relative has a squatter situation that's out of hand. A woman rented a room via AirBnb and lied to the cops about the situation so now she has "squatters rights" by California law.
So he decides to annoy her in the most toxic Kick streamer kind of way with Text to speech donations, really loud music, and just being absolutely toxic in the most entertaining way possible.
I don't think I've ever laughed so hard in a long ass time!😂
It's like Jerry Springer type Trash TV but on a whole other level.

those are both ActivityPub features.
ATproto doesn't have much yet besides BlueSky. There's whitewind and frontpage, but that's it so far.
Furthermore, they only federate with themselves officially and since Fedi decided they wanted to harass the dev into adding the opt in crap that no other Fedi software has, so now the feature is pretty useless cause most people don't know about it.🤦‍♂️

it does really suck that these laws are getting in the way of open communication.😔
However, if there's a company that has the funds to make it known that they shouldn't have a legal obligation once the switch is flipped, it's Meta.
There's no benefit for them to do that though. They have shareholders they're beholden to and doing anything regarding Fediverse doesn't directly make them money and fighting laws like this, loses them money.

I use Youtube music for all my music needs because I'm on YouTube so much, Premium is a lifesaver and its bundled in.
No ads on any videos anytime I'm logged into youtube, along with YouTube music. And I have a family account, so i have 5 accounts for the price of 2.
It's not worth it for everyone, I just feel it works good for me.

Ya know, I never really thought about it before, but I guess there are people unaware that Mastodon *is* technically being developed by a company.
Mastodon Gmbh is a non-profit in Germany and US, but still a company, just one that isn't driven by profits. Which is good in a way.
However, it is driven by one man's goals and I cannot trust those goals given the way some people are silenced on .social based on their political opinion not aligning with his....
Take from that whatever you want, but I worry that since Fediverse is 73% Mastodon, they can do almost anything they want and "Fediverse" gets the scrutiny because people conflate the terms.
That's why they still refuse to add useful moderation tools. They don't have to if you don't know there's other Fediverse softwares to choose from.😩

well...threads *kinda* added AP support. We can't mention them unless we're replying to a post that already exists there, they can't mention or reply to us directly, and each user has to enable it to be able to see our replies and like them. They hide that option behind 3 menus and never tell you it's there.
So yeah, but only if the people you want to follow are aware of the Fediverse and have it turned on, otherwise no, not really...
Flipboard, on the other hand, is federating accounts in batches. It definitely seems like the more correct way.

However, I much enjoy these protocols being bridged and having this spam bot active WILL cause it to be widely blocked by Fediverse.
Since it's on your domain, they will block the entire domain so that other subdomains don't get around the block. So if you could do something to stop the spam coming into the Fediverse from that subdomain, that'd be fantastic.

they only go as far as the federation takes it. If your instance hadn't been connected to them previously or someone hadn't boosted the post, you might not see it even though they use the hashtag.
Hashtags don't carry content here, follows and boosts do. Hashtags only organize the content that's already there.

for the second question, it's because new people join, get harassed, and leave because Eugen refuses to add any useful moderation tools.
If a user doesn't report posts, moderators don't see them. Very few users report posts and a lot of black folks keep leaving because of harassment.

oh, nah I don't think there's any more authorization than an extra bit of information tied to your account. Just like your profile info or anything else on your account.
I didn't say it was supposed to be that way either, I said I didn't ever hear of such a thing like user notes being revealed happening.
I'm *really* active here and I'm pretty sure I would've heard about it if it happened before.🤷‍♂️

they do decent work for their own platform (mastodon.social) but completely ignoring Moderation issues and absolute lack of useful moderation tools. They may be able to handle it because they get reports, but I sure wish they'd think of everyone else using their software too.😒🤦‍♂️

those are Facebook-like...not exactly their own thing.
I'd say that you probably won't find *massive* innovation quite yet as the protocol itself is still heavily evolving.
There are platforms like Flipboard which is it's own thing and very unique, but its not built on AP, just integrating it.

it has a LOT of things that twitter or masto doesn't have. Cloud storage, completely customizable UI, integrated games, character limit is 3000, etc. Not to mention programmers can create plugins to extend functionality.

tbh, if you're *that* worried and really don't care about your data being sold to the highest bidder, you might be better off on a corporate platform...🤷‍♂️
Fedi is mostly run by individuals with passion. There's a few other Mastodon instances run by corporations like flipboard.social but they're not mastodon.social, they don't allow anyone in.
The world is run on money, if you don't wanna pay for luxuries, then you have to take some risks. One of those risks might be signing up to an instance that you can't be certain of it's future.
There's always Threads and BlueSky, but if you're trying to engage with Fedi, it'd be a bit difficult cause a lot of instances block them here.😬

Well, damn....
I never thought I'd never say this sentence, but it seems as though Jesse "The Body" Ventura has been signed to a WWE Legends contract.
I know they had that little stint where it seemed like him and Vince had hashed out their problems, but it was very short and I didn't think we'd see him near WWE again.

I was there was a workaround for the Mastodon DDoS by link preview issue.
Small publications can't have their links posted here because it can take their entire site down.
The fact that I could kill a small site for a few minutes just by posting a link, really really sucks.

Yeah, this is an unfortunate side effect to federation...
I have also been blocked and limited by a number of instances on which I had several friends, severing relationships with no discussion from the instance admin.
It's disappointing, but unfortunately I don't see a way around it unless the instance notifies you ahead of time.😬 😔

Did you know that Mastodon Admins have the power to hide your posts to any user that's not logged in?
They would have to enable "Hide public timeline from logged out users".
Furthermore, enabling "Authorized Fetch" makes it so that users that are logged into an instance that is blocked, cannot see or interact with your posts.
If these things are important to you, you should discuss them with your admin or consider migrating to an instance that has these features enabled.
Otherwise, every post you have set to "public" can be read by *anyone* via the website.
Also, Mastodon has a built in RSS feed for every profile that cannot be disabled without editing the code. This would allow *anyone* to follow you, even without an account, and you would have no idea about it.

oh boy...I hope big news sites don't pick this up or Fedi is gonna be in a shit storm of bad PR.
I wish we could do something about those gross CSAM instances, but due to the nature of the protocol being open and easily used, I doubt we'll ever get rid of them fully.😔

could you possibly ask those questions here? Being on mobile and an exclusively English speaker, I can't translate the entire blogpost easily to be able to read it. My Mastodon instance has built in translation, which allowed me to read your post.
I understand if you don't care to do that, I just figured I'd ask.😅
