Tbh I think there are problems with all voting systems. This election highlights the issues with FPTP.
IMO I think it might be better to elect MPs at random.

It's semifeudal. I guess that if this trend carries on, housing will be concentrated in the hands of a smaller and smaller class of homeowners and landlords.

The slowdown in fertility has been an amazing thing to watch. Now it is only Africa that continues with a high level of fertility. And as you say good health care gives a security.
This does mean that many countries such as the UK will have a demographic time bomb of more old people.
Maybe we could do with more immigration from Africa 🙂

It's not quite fair to say they're not medically trained and some have decades of experience. But I know some settings have stopped using them because of problems with diagnosis errors. I wonder what the BMA think of it.
Labour have historically been quite keen this approach. PCSO, TA's, HCA's etc are all their to provide a less costly alternative. HCA's now do most real nursing in hospitals. Everything but meds.
Ultimately, it's funding vs safety.

As the addage goes.
We don't have a staffing problem in social care - we have a wages problem in social care.
Using foreign labour to undermine UK wages understandably pisses people off. The real solution is to build better wages, abolish zero hours contracts and improve training so there is a career pathway in care and care workers get a fair deal.

The key phrase for me is experience of working class life. The UK has changed so fast.
Housing, education, jobs etc have changed massively so there is a disconnect between the majority in the labour market now and those who have found middle class jobs, own their house or have retired.
For example most young workers, working class or middle class, will never be able to buy a house with their own money.

In my experience most peasants hate being peasants and have a habit about doing something about it when opportunity arises
So maybe they'd agree with Marx about the idiocy of rural life

I remember now. I was doing some solidarity work with Mexican groups in the 90s and a number of times, from very different groups, Marxist, anarcho, leftists to liberals would openly argue against solidarity work because the Mexican groups were peasants and not industrial workers.
So, their struggles weren't relavent. Sometimes ideology can make people ignore what's in front of their nose. I like that phrase about people losing their living connection to struggle.

And Marx very much brought together ideas that were common currency at the time.
In some ways accusing something of being Marxist has become a way of undermining criticism of capitalism.
As the quote goes, when I fed the poor they called me a saint, when I asked why they were poor they called me a communist.

I was thinking about this and it's a particularly bad position to be in when your countries political machinery is so massively influenced by businessmen/oligarchs from other countries.
#Labour aren't immune to this, especially when you consider the Blair institute which has hundreds of staff and lots of influence plus US and Saudi funding. Or private funders like Peter Hearn of MPM Connect who now make up most of UK Labour Party funding.

This is all true, but EVs do have the advantage of not producing CO2.
So we have to switch, but we can do this in a clever way.
Shared use can massively reduce the number of vehicles needed. My hope is shared systems will mean traffic is reduced.
And it would be lovely to see more public transport.
