I guess for me the ultimate driver is solving business problems effectively. That's a goal I have in working with software professionally. I want to solve problems and move on. I definitely do not want to resolve problems better solved elsewhere. The entire basis of a business is unique value.

That's the bitch with economies of scale. The avg business does not have AWS scale and trying to emulate it on bare metal or vms grossly underestimates operational costs.
Ppl will cite "portability" as a driver. But ask yourself is that really worth your time when it's literally fifty cents to use a rock solid service that hasn't changed in a decade+. Unlikely.

Maybe things like Kafka are cheaper at massive scale. But factoring TCO w salaries, robust fail over, etc ...I doubt it very much

i know we all got sold on 'isomorphic' or whatever but littering code with conditionals is the definition of spaghetti code. looking code like 'use server' or isNode or likewise reeks of problems in an uncanny valley no compiler can fix.
we separate concerns for these very good reasons!
its cool if the language is the same that doesn't mean the logic is or even should be between client and backend.

Most aren't ready for this BUT it is possible to represent the logical architecture and the physical architecture with perfect symmetry which mostly restores the illusion and removes the need for distributed abstraction workarounds.
A good way to do this is #serverless cloud functions, using a manged db, deployed deterministically with infrastructure as code.

The logical architecture of most software systems is roughly Model/View/Controller.
The physical architecture is often N nodes/pods/instances/vms behind a load balancer distributed across at least three but usually more availability zones.
Zero symmetry.
This is why ppl opine about observability and distributed tracing. Their logical architecture is completely at odds with the physical representation.
The speed of light and hardware failure intervenes. 2/3

Forms on the web have become terrible. Lost state. No keyboard nav. Weird refreshes. Mobile hostile.
The reason is #frontend developers that think clientside state management is how to implement a form. It is not.
Good forms work without client #javascript (and then are progressive enhanced by js to work even better).
Good forms always submit. Good forms remember values and display problems inline.
How do we fix the misconceptions and, in the process, fix the find on the web ?
