Another open source project that I've had my eye on and you may want to check out is SilverBullet: https://silverbullet.md/ . I really like the server-first PWA design, but I've got so much momentum with Logseq that I haven't been able to do a proper evaluation yet.

I get the sense that a LOT of their early users switched to open source alternatives... primarily Logseq and Obsidian. Logseq is now my daily driver for "Personal Knowledge Management" and I really love the forward and backward linking capabilities. But it is a pain in the butt to use on mobile and to get syncing to work well.

If you can, get yourself a nice portable battery - it should be able to run the oxygen machine all night with no problems if you spec it right, and you can recharge the battery during the day with the generator or via alternator while driving.

I strongly suspect that the Nostr experience for plebs is orders of magnitude worse than for large accounts. The 1% experience smooths over so many of the technical issues. Not saying they can’t be resolved, just that the “large follower” experience, currently, is not representative of the 99% experience at all… so be wary of influencer opinions on Nostr in general.

I have worked with IPFS and not a fan of the design. Way over engineered, buggy, hard to reason about failures, the list goes on. Torrents are a much better protocol if you want to add some redundancy in addition to Blossom IMHO. cc @npub1ye5…knpr

@npub126n…e9ll StartOS is by far my favorite stack for a self managed node, but waiting on the major redesign for clearnet capabilities has been painful to say the least. It’s still the best design / architecture IMHO and I hope they can continue the quality when the clearnet features finally land. The PR diff is scary large… 😱

Does anyone have a favorite tool or service for monitoring relays for changes and/or discrepancies around NIP65 Mailbox configuration? I'd like something that will monitor a fixed set of relays (configurable/not based on my Nostr settings) and alert me if any of them change. It's mostly just an experiment right now, but there could be some nice side-benefits running a nostr relay this way:
- Instead of exposing whatever IP address you get from your Internet provider, you gain provider "anonymity" in exchange for shifting that trust/dependency over to Cloudflare.
- Cloudflare has an amazing backbone with cutting edge caching & routing technology. In practice I've found that services often run a lot better for end-users once you plug in to their network. Sadly I think this is somewhat due to the centralizing forces of the current Internet.
- No need to punch holes in firewalls, NAT forward into a private network, etc.
- If necessary, you can turn on their DDoS protection very easily. Another big reason why you'll see a lot of services relying on them.
