@npub1hvd…9sq9 Yeah I mean like one nonprofit working as hard as it can is the best we’ve got. But I have had such a hard time getting perfectly normal websites back out of there. Many of my trips to the Wayback Machine end in heartbreak

@npub1hvd…9sq9 This hits on very very deep thoughts I’ve been having with various people as we plot our next moves and think about protocols and what “deleting” means and other very philosophical precursors to actual technology, and the more I think about it, the more I feel like the entire web needs a public cache.

I just spent 90 minutes working in Vision Pro from an office chair with a 360° dome of windows around me, and I have to say, it’s the real deal. The only compromise is how many things I have to use Safari windows for, because window management gets a little fragile when there’s a bunch of windows from the same app.
I left the dome in place in my office. If it’s all still there when I come back, I will be in heaven.

@npub1alq…mnj6 Oh yeah, this stuff I had been doing on Twitter since 2021ish was really made for Instagram all along. I only set up these Instagram accounts a few months ago. 300 followers actually feels kinda fast. I am not sure how that scene will turn out as a tech space. At least in that Apple ecosystem world I roll in, that’s all FULLY on Mastodon now, though the big bloggers are certainly TRYING Threads

@npub1alq…mnj6 Oh my current projects are not real-name, though I am taking the firewall down gradually and carefully as I unwind my current job. I’m at https://www.threads.net/@taalumot (𝕏 account had 6200 followers, but I left).
Even as I was typing that message, though, the thought was already forming: “That’s because this is the easiest way to lure posters onto the platform. They’ll bury links the second retention becomes even the slightest bit of a problem.

@npub1alq…mnj6 I don’t know for SURE how that WordPress thing is implemented, but you can look in Mastodon’s Account settings at the bottom to find the kind of thing you’re looking for. If a WordPress site’s ActivityPub accounts work like this, you should be able to do the same thing I did and forward your website’s followers to this account.
That’s separate from the post content, though. To get the website to publish to this Mastodon account automatically is probably something done in WP settings

@npub1alq…mnj6 It was my @npub10ul…4dt0 account. I was cross-posting this account to that account by RSS before and just talking to the people there separately. But then I found they have full-on account forwarding like you can do between Mastodon accounts.
So I set up an alias on this account, pointed the Micro.blog account at this account, clicked one button, and suddenly (or really after about an hour of steady crunching) all those followers were over here instead.
And Threads seems to intend to do this!

@npub1alq…mnj6 (Hi Richard!! 😁) If Mosseri hasn’t been plainly lying since Threads launched, it will be the exception as long as there is sufficient education about how to migrate your account.
I migrated a non-Mastodon ActivityPub account to this account for the first time yesterday, and it could not have been easier. It took nothing more than pasting the usernames in text fields in each other’s settings. It gave me a huge boost of confidence that Threads will be able to implement it.
