@npub1c5c…644a I can imagine. I upgraded from 2019 Intel MBP to M1 Pro, and it was already amazing in terms of battery life and fan noise. Three years later, and the laptop is still fast and responsive, and can handle any workload I can throw its way. Sure, I can reduce the project compile time by some margin, but it woulc be a luxury, and not a bare necessity.

@npub1npy…3sf4 I am really glad to be working for a company that gives you a freedom to choose whether to work from the office or from home. Just yesterday we had a pointless 2.5 online workshop, of which my active participation was required for maybe 15 minutes in total.
I was quite happy to work from home, turn off the camera and mic, and spend the boring downtime playing guitar.
i don't think I'll ever be able to go back to the office full time.

Canary Islands: Day 6
Teide National Park was definitely the highlight of my entire trip! The area is shaped like a giant bowl with curious rock formations and mountain Teide dominating the landscape.
To get there, I first had to ascend almost 1.5 km from the village of Vilaflor. Hence why most guides recommend hiking the route in the opposite direction.

Canary Islands: Day 2
I never get tired of mountain sunrises! The day started with a dazzling mix of pinks and purples.
After a brief stop for lunch at a hamlet of Ayagaures, I have continued to climb the eponymous valley. Soon, cacti and shrubs gave way to fluffy Canary pines.
I've met only a couple of other hikers, and had the trail just for myself.

In the last days of 2023, I embarked on a hiking journey to the Canary Islands.
Renowned as a destination for tourists and beachgoers, these islands are also a heaven for hikers, and boast an array of diverse ecosystems, from coastal dunes to pine forests to volcanic terrains.
My journey took me along the #GR131 route traversing #Tenerife and #GranCanaria.

The number of #COVID19 cases here in #Denmark is spiking this week, but you would never know unless you specifically look for it. It's not discussed in the news, and people are content to go on with their lives without a care.
It's a #Christmas season, and every company is organising a party. My workplace is no exception, flying in a hundred of people from around #Europe with no precautions.
Now I’m left choosing between calling it sick (the irony!) or taking a risk and attending.

@npub14k2…ed68 @npub1ksu…mln2 I've noticed the same problem when researching travel-related topics, looking to visit a city or country I haven't previously been to. It's impossible to find any normal human thoughts and impressions about nature areas, hiking routes or interesting landmarks.
Instead, Google returns pages and pages of useless AI-generated drivel and ads masquerading as travel blogs. Searching Reddit and social media is marginally better, but who knows how long they are going to last.

I’m watching the daytime shrinking every day and dreading the looming winter time transition. While I love colorful autumn nature, October is always a painful time of year for me because of this change.
It's almost completely dark at 6 in the evening, so I rush outside right after my workday ends to grab the remaining sunlight until it's gone.

@npub1sdu…w074 @npub180e…jrzc My impression is the weird weather app behaviour. It opens on a separate page for tapping on a different kind of complication from the watch face instead of a general overview page.
For example, I have a weather complication on my watch face, and tapping it opens the page with exactly same same info as the complication itself, if I want to see the conditions, wind speed and other details I have to tap multiple times instead of having everything immediately on a glance.

#Kungsleden: Day 8 🌤️
After one final lake crossing and a hike through a mountain pass, I have entered Kvikkjokk-Kabla mountain forest.
It's a truly majestic coniferous forest, with small waterfalls, lots of undergrowth and impassible thickets just a few meters off the trail.
It’s such great difference with the weak birches of the first days of the hike!

The trail has entered the area, where #Sami people engage in traditional #reindeer herding. And the sight of reindeer grazing has quickly become commonplace.

#Kungsleden: Day 3 ☁️
With the sky covered in a thick layer of clouds and icy wind, the temperature has dropped almost to the freezing point.
I trekked through the moss-covered Tjäktja pass before descending into the Tjäktjajåkka stream valley. The stream's water flow was erratic, with twists and turns, serene lakes, and forceful cascades over rocky terrains.

@npub1su4…a0dw Haven’t read this one yet, but there’s another book on the subject that I can highly recommend - “Humans to Mars. Fifty Years of Mission Planning, 1950–2000” by David S. F. Portree. It’s available for free on NASA website.
The main thread that goes through the entire book is that the Mars mission planning was constrained mainly by financial considerations and a lack of political support, and not as much by technical considerations.

@npub1c5c…644a I’ve been using a Sea to Summit self-inflating foat mat for the last 5 years. My exact model seems to be discontinued, but it is one of the entry level ones, which works well enough for my needs. It’s very comfortable, and light and compact enough to carry on a hike without giving it a second thought.
No downsides worth mentioning.

Kennedy Space Center, Vehicle Assembly Building, the Florida launch complexes - none of these could have been built today for so many reasons: lack of funding, public disinterest, environmental and safety regulations.
