I don't understand how an assassination attempt can be more shocking than a school shooting. I thought American shootings were normalised; I'm honestly surprised people feel more about this one. I do worry about a sympathy vote surge but shootings are so normal in the US I wonder even about that.

We let Russia flatten cities in Chechnya, Georgia, Syria, Ukraine, and now we’re letting Israel flatten a city. I’m not sure what “let” means in this context. I’m not sure what you do to stop city flattening, I guess evidently no one is. Reduce the costs of inaction? Increase the other options for action? The obvious is to increase the costs of city levelling and I guess we’re trying, but not winning at that.

Google+ was shut down to avoid thinking hard about how to solve Facebook’s 2016-2016 problems, exactly when a better, more secure version of Facebook was in demand.
