Fixing plastic waste will be 100% a societal choice involving large scale regulatory action or it will not happen *at all*. I am so tired of hearing people talk about individuals modifying their behavior to reduce plastic waste. Yes we can alter our behavior to reduce our plastic waste, but if everyone did everything reasonable they could do in terms of changing their behavior it would still be a colossal problem.

Holy shit, the delusional mentally ill man who broke into Windsor Castle with a crossbow in 2021 to "kill queen Elizabeth" got sentenced to 9 years in prison. He had one of those chatbot girlfriends and the transcripts are coming out and he talked to the chatbot incessantly and at great length about the idea and it acted super supportive and kept telling him he could do it and it was a good idea.

One really weird thing about our economic culture right now is so much of the rhetoric surrounding it focuses on the primacy of shareholder interest, but members of boards of directors who are supposed to represent shareholders often pay next to know attention and do very little actual work. They're frequently chosen on the basis of celebrity name recognition and may have no ability to understand the business. And the whole system is incredibly corrupt. 🧵

The chain pharmacies are definitely in the stage where they've achieved market dominance and they're milking their customers for profits as hard as they can and cutting costs like crazy even if it leads to bad service.

Walgreens is making me crazy. They keep not filling one of my meds so I get gaps of 2-3 days between the old prescription running out and the new prescription coming in. They're not allowed to order the refill before a certain date or something and the refill then takes longer to come in than I have medicine left. 🧵

Holy moly, a historian got ahold of the original tape of this famous Martin Luther King Jr interview in Playboy in 1965 where he harshly criticized Malcolm X, really the single source for the idea he vehemently disapproved of Malcolm X, and it turns out the criticism of Malcolm X was completely fabricated afterwards by the interviewer Alex Haley. Haley later wrote Roots, which unfortunately it turned out he'd plagiarized significant parts of.
