Just added the book, The Kneeling Man, to my reading list. It’s by @npub1ff3…sc33 (https://www.letaseletzky.com) and I’m particularly interested because Leta's essay (link below) was so beautifully written, and it includes history mashed up with family history-research, and reconnecting with a family member. Themes that resonate with me, especially given my own ancestry research project. It will be released in April and is on the top of my list now.

I can see topics I'm interested in right in my timeline, I can look curated things up specifically, and it's a way to find people I might want to follow because they post about a topic I'm interested in, but also lots of other things of interest. Plus it's an invitation to engage and a form of consent. Want to engage with the greater fediverse on said topic, hashtag your post. Want to remain lower key, don't. :)

I think of it as my mindless magazine feed. I no longer subscribe to magazines (home and garden and lifestyle and fashion) so it works for me, but no I'd not go there for substantive content. :)

Trump is such a black hole of emotional neediness. I noted with interest that his father told him they were Queens, and not Manhattan developers. I think that's an example of why he's been so desperate to gain the approval of what he views as "the elite." How humiliated he must be to know that even with the title of POTUS, the elite still looked down their noses at him, and tolerated him only as a useful fool, if they tolerated him at all.

Wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a quality book printer for a book (it's a novel with some black and white photos) we are going to print as a 90-year-old birthday gift. We are not interested in selling it. Just having a few copies printed. BUT we want it to be high end. Nice paper, quality print, probably hard back, though we would also look at a nice quality paperback. Price is not a major consideration. We are more interested in quality.

Am I wrong for wondering why media is referring to Covid as a respiratory illness? In this discussion about long covid, the expert refers to it as a "multi-organ" illness. And I'm thinking wouldn't that more accurate description help change people's perceptions about why preventative masking, testing, etc. is smart?

Went for my annual mammogram today. Disappointed, but not surprised to see no masks, not even with the supposedly educated medical staff, except for two. CDC wastewater shows covid infections in a near vertical line up this past month in Virginia. Needless to say, we are avoiding the hoi polloi like the plague at this point.

Just had to send a THIRD email of this year to new neighbors whose dog barks non-stop for HOURS. I always give them an out, saying, "you are probably not home" even though I know that often they are. We can hear the poor little thing barking even if we are inside with our deck doors closed. I've recommended a trainer we used, but this family is clearly irresponsible. Hoping third email will be the charm! It's high-pitched barking for HOURS and sometimes daily. </rant>

I don't mean to intrude, but there are (if interested) specially trained people called "Senior Move Managers" who help people downsize who they are/their personality from a lifetime of a larger home to a smaller space. For my in-laws this service was INVALUABLE. And it helped that it wasn't a family member involved in the emotional part of it. Someone objective to help decide what to keep for the new space, etc.

Starting a new project as a 90th birthday present for my MIL. Family and friends are helping out too! It turns out my MIL's uncle, who lived in China for decades, wrote a book in the early 1930s wrote a book. We have not been able to find a copy of it (likely many copies lost in 1932 war and when the Japanese bombed publisher) but I was able to find a PDF copy. We're recreating the book, and a SIL is embroidering a book sleeve for it with a Chinese design. #NDBPRoject01 Not due till 2024. :)

I do hope she's savvy about spammers gaining access to her computer, intimidating seniors into sending money. :( A friend of mine's mother just lost her life savings. :( I just shared a post with some articles about that. Horrific. And she knew sending "gift cards" was a red flag, but these people bully and intimidate and make seniors afraid, so they follow instructions to send money. :(

Had lots of fun with the space theme cake topper. The four was very important because this was the first year the little boy could count to FOUR. Finished the Mario happy birthday cake topper for 14-year-old little boy. It's got an LED edge light thingie as a backdrop. Also made stands for him to use them as shelf decorations afterwards. The Happy Birthday clips on, and can be removed. Still experimenting with things a laser can do and things you can put on a cake. :) Next project to include pyrotechnics???? ;)

#[0] that is horrific. I grew up in India (amongst other places) and people were very creative and could fix anything and make it work again. There surely is a need around the world, and a way to make these bikes functional again. ☹️
