This is the best photo I could take of Saturn...
Only edited a bit the contrast/luminosity. Taken with Pixel 4A and Celestron 130 SLT. I know that people usually take such photos from lots of frames and they stack them together with specialized software, plus do a lot of editing after. Yeah their results are many times better, but for one right now I do not feel like spending hours to edit/create such a photo, and second when is the editing too fake? Too much? If you use special programs to reconstruct pixels on a low quality photo....then is almost like adding bits that are not even there....idk...
At least this sort of photo is one that I enjoy taking but looking at Saturn through my phone's camera live, and taking a brief photo. Then edited it for less than a minute.

Hm I just had this thought:
It seems to me that people who use Mastodon complain a lot about the bad people on the fediverse, like the racists, nazis, whatever. And I dont fucking see these bad people....
So I wonder maybe is because I use Friendica which displays posts and I have complete control over what I see. For example I can easily select to see ONLY the posts from my friends. Period. But Mastodon people may not have these sort of options, PLUS on Mastodon you see comments instead of posts. Like a fuck ton of comments.
So what if because Mastodon people get to read a lot of comments instead of posts, they see a lot more of the crap!?
I wonder...
And for the love of words, I have no clue how people put up with a newsfeed made up of comments that are always out of context. Makes a lot more sense to see posts and then comments on those posts, but never comments in the wild.
Maybe Mastodon people should try Friendica. It is really awesome and the control you have over what you see and who can interact with you, is amazing.

@npub1djp…8kck It enforces cohesion withing 1 single app. Or in the case of Gnome within a bunch of apps. That's the best it can be achieved. Which is not good at all. You will, at best, have different themes and different looking apps for your system. An app does not work unless it is within an OS. If the app developers do not care about the OS then they do not care about their app.
At least they can let the system draw the window decorations to provide a sane consistency for the user. So that the user knows that APPS live inside BOXES (windows). And these boxes can be managed by the system. Effects, window buttons and features.

@npub1djp…8kck Well there are a few things that look a bit more polished, but not respecting the system's theme, not exporting the menu for HUD functionality, not using the system's native window decoration, Thunderbird is in the same boat as Gnome apps.
Not made for the Linux community, but made for themselves, enforcing whatever design decisions they want. And with some themes the corners look broken, and I tested hundreds of apps but Thunderbird is the only culprit so far.
How come functionality is not something we should be excited about?

Basically now you can use other servers to do the transcoding, even your own local machine. This is insane! So amazing! I will have a deeper look into it.
Towards the end of this year, the version 6 will bring password protect option for videos, the ability to see thumbnails when hovering the playback bar, chapters, or the ability to replace a video with a new version!
This is how a video platform should be run. Kudos to this motherfuckers! They are the heroes of our society, together with the ones who volunteer themselves to make this world (offline or online) a bit better! We should force this society to provide humans with at least their basic needs as trade-free so that we can grow more of these projects. You need a fertile soil in order to grow stuff from it.

This is me after I released the documentary:
I'd like to say that I felt a huge relief or happiness but the feelings were moderate at best. I sent a few emails to some people and orgs, let's see if the documentary reaches some. I am happy that we have 1k people subscribed to our newsletter and the "open email rate" is over 50%.
Anyway, these next days I'll focus on getting the word out about the documentary and see if we get any feedback. I also plan to make a TROMcast about it and I also work on a big article about the work that I did for the documentary and the reasoning behind the approach I have taken with it.
I also wanna focus on my personal life. Go out more, dive and see some sea creatures, and eventually stress about the money situation later this year 😀 .
But anyways, what makes me the happiest BY FAR is that this documentary IS DONE. And I can focus on new things. Maybe new videos, new books, new projects. Let's see. But for the time being let's try to tell people about this documentary because I think it is a very important one. Objectively so. What we present there is real and important. So please share the documentary!

@npub1djp…8kck You know I used to say the exact same thing when we were using Gnome for TROMjaro, and after we switched to XFCE and using the more classic menu, I like the classic one more. Granted our classic menu has a grid of apps.
With decently big icons.
It simply is faster and easier to not have to switch your attention and mouse cursor to the center of the screen after clicking the corner of the screen.

@npub1djp…8kck @npub1gmx…qlvg I understand, but I am talking about compatibility and usability. It's not really about the burger menus as it is about the ability to have them "exported" so that the system knows that's a menu. That's how it used to be. That means someone with disabilities can use a program that can easily search, read, and act on any menu items. And for those without disabilities like me, make it 100 times easier to use complex programs because with the press of a button you can search for any menu item, without navigating through dozens of menus and submenus.
It is simply a lot more useful to have separated menus that the system can interact with.
Lastly, hamburger menus can never replace the menus for most programs out there that have more than 3 menu categories. You can't hide so many items under a hamburger menu. So Gnome too will always end up with at least 2 separate menu designs.

@npub1djp…8kck I think if you are used to using a mouse, it is easier to use that classic menu. Definitely not easier to click an icon in a corner of the screen, and have the menu/app grid in the center of the screen. That's dizzy in my opinion.

However as I said we did this for our custom distro, you can have a look at the code git.trom.tf/TROMjaro/fixes-pac… and honestly after testing thousands of apps for our library, adding hundreds to it, I rarely came across any inconsistencies. The proof is here www.tromjaro.com/apps/ I make screenshots for all of the apps we test.
We've been doing this for the past years. I use our custom distro a lot, and test a lot on it, I would not want an inconsistent desktop for me either. But so far so great.

@npub1djp…8kck Libadwaita is the reason why the Linux desktop has been broken for the past many months. No offense but I feel like the Gnome-centric people do not understand this. We work with XFCE for our custom distro and so far our distro is the most UI conistent that I ever tested. GTK, QT and their versions, even some flatpaks, respect the system's theme. Yet when they released libadwaita all of that broke entirely. We have to use a patch to make these apps work. That's terrible, unless you think Linux is Gnome. Gnome broke the consistency on ALL of the other desktops because of their libadwaita, regardless what their intention was.
Gnome also destroyed the classic menus that were so useful. They implemented that hamburger menu that requires multiple clicks to be used, and does not work with the Heads Up Display, a super useful utility for everyone, more so for people with disabilities. A unique feature allowing anyone to search through menus. We still have that for our distro and the only apps that are not playing well are, of course, the "gnome apps".
So if anything, Gnome created a desktop that looks ok (if you like 2 shades and a few color choices) but only for the specific gtk+libadwaita apps. The rest is a complete mess. Fonts, icons, dark/light, themes overall, window buttons, nothing is coherent. I have a Peertube channel where I look at these in more detail videos.trom.tf/c/lut/videos
Mind you I have tested thousands of apps. We have our own apps library for TROMjaro, so the sample size is quite big. That's where my conclusions come from.
I stand behind what we did for TROMjaro where pretty much everything looks coherent. Themes, fonts, icons. Cross libraries.

@npub1djp…8kck I've used the Gnome DE for several years before switching to XFCE. For our custom distro TROMjaro we use both a clickable menu (icon, you click it, you see the apps and categories) and a centered window for when you press the Super key.
In my view that's the best approach for using the mouse and keyboard. If you use the mouse the menu follows that, not like Gnome where if you pressed the menu icon you'll get a full screen centered menu with apps. Some people are really used with the mouse and for that such a "classic" menu is far better. Your arguments make sense only for when you use the keyboard to open the menu. Also, to have a quick list of apps and categories is super useful when you are not sure what the name of an app is, but you know it is say in Multimedia. I have a bunch of multimedia tools and I want to see which one I am looking for.
