This #Nativity, I'm thinking about #Emmanuel and the teachings he brought to us. In particular, the corporeal works of mercy:
Feed the hungry,
Give Drink to the thirsty,
Shelter the homeless,
visit the sick,
visit the prisoners,
bury the dead,
give alms to the poor.
It strikes me that without one's basic needs met, we often aren't in a good position to hear about anything deeper. This year has been pretty tough. It has been an eye-opening 12 months.

At the Angelus prayer, the Pope said he continues to receive troubling news from Gaza, where “unarmed civilians are the targets of bombings and gunfire.
”Pope Francis condemned an attack on the compound of the Catholic parish, “where there are no terrorists, but families, children, people who are sick and have disabilities, and nuns.”
“A mother, Mrs. Nahida Khalil Anton, and her daughter, Samar Kamal Anton, were killed, and others were wounded by the shooters while they were going to the bathroom,” said the Pope.
“Some say, ‘This is terrorism. This is war.’ Yes, it is war. It is terrorism,” he said. “That is why the Scripture affirms that ‘God stops wars… breaks the bow, splinters the spear’ (Psalm 46:10). Let us pray to the Lord for peace.”
Pope Francis also recalled people in various parts of the world who are suffering due to war.
“Let us not forget our brothers and sisters suffering from war, in Ukraine, in Palestine and Israel, and in other conflict zones,” he said. “May the approach of Christmas strengthen the commitment to open paths of peace.”

In the spirit of keeping my works in secret, I'll keep this general, but wow! This reflection hits deep right now. This is really relevant right now, and a bit of a vocation may be unfolding. This Gospel reading reflection touches on how.

@npub1jz8…n2a5 One of my favorite responses from instructors back in school was, "It depends." I suspect that sometimes the minimum is what I need, and sometimes perfection. I don't know about future treasures, but union, communion, theosis all seem like crucial aspects to me. Service to others is critical as well. I feel uncomfortable, though, with the question, "How can I be perfect." I get the sense that attaining perfection will have something to do with grace and God's calling. Good points to consider though.

@npub1vz4…rnyf Good point. It seems like there is more to it, but I'm still learning about it.
I've always understood the word church to mean more of a community rather than an institution, building, or hierarchy. Granted, all these have to do with the church, but church to me is the whole enchilada.
A lot of what I understand about synodality makes good basic sense, but a lot of it leaves me scratching my head. Mainly because the way it is being rolled out is confusing and lacking of guidance. Synodality is largely a process or way of facilitating a meeting. And it makes good sense. The part I don't get yet is the actual, final decision making.
You'd hope that the shepherds actually do have the needed training and formation as I hear it called. I keep listening. It's a curious thing. 🤔
