I will post sources later but really quick, the base of the tail is the worst. Not only that, but the study showed people who are experienced with cats thought the cats liked it and people least experienced with cats pet them in ways the cats liked best— face stuff.

Hi! Yes! I remember. I think the best all around book on dog or cat care (like everything you need to know) are Dr. Zazie Todd's books, titled "Wag" and "Purr" respectively. I think the best book on dog or cat body language are Lili Chin's Doggie and Kitty Language books. A more textbookish one is Brenda Aloff's "Canine Body Language". Regarding how dogs and people communicate with each other, I recommend Dr. Patricia McConnell's "The Other End of the Leash", which has a lot about how dogs will interpret human behavior. A more anthropological look at bonds across species (can be triggering because it looks at good and bad bonds) is "Living with Animals: Bonds across Species", edited by Porter, Natalie, Gershon.

Just this year this volunteer plant decided to grow onto the sidewalk. I will relocate it. It will be that bee balm that has lots of stacked flowers that look like tiny orchids to me. I have it elsewhere.

maybe once they lick it out of curiosity, they cannot spit it out because of the papillae on their tongue that are like backwards facing barbs. It gets caught on those, so they are forced to swallow the whole thing, which often looks like they are eating vigorously even though they don’t want to and might be trying to get it out of their mouths by just eating it. This is why string is deadly to cats— they cannot spit stuff out. They swallow string and it becomes like a wire saw in their GI tract.

The most jaw dropping conflict and resistance taking place in the world right now, IMHO, is the human-elephant conflict. Y'all have no idea. Elephants have made organized gangs who mass communicate using infrasound and share info about specific humans and trains to strategically attack in retaliation for events they never even witnessed but just heard about. People are still trying to work out their syntax and grammar (like the Cornell Ornithology Lab of all places), which elephants have in their communication. That is actual language. The bird people noticed it.
