I'm not sure it is immaterial. The whole project depends critically on developers working for free because they like the product. If one wants the product changed, one either has to convince those developers that they'll like the changed version even more (by a big enough margin to warrant the work they have to do to make the changes), or stump up some cash.

@npub1vs8…54zy The argument might hold up with a couple of extra logical steps: "you just bought a TV, most TVs are rubbish, therefore you're likely to be rapidly dissatisified with its performance and want to buy a replacement". The equivalent would definitely work for vacuum cleaners.
