I have successfully completed my technician class amateur radio license exam, and just paid my FCC fees. I await the issuance of a Call Sign. Does anyone have information on how long that takes?
I will start with a little QRZ-1 HT that is recommended for beginners. I believe I have enough information to keep myself busy with it for some time, but I expect to be back later for help learning how to connect my bitcoin and lightning nodes to the blockchain via radio.

As I read the exam book, I see different implementations of digital radio, making it appear that talkgroups implemented by one version will not be available to users whose radios have a different implementation. Is this a limitation of the radio or will most digital radios be able to tune to most talkgroups? If it is a radio limitation, is there information about which digital implementation would be preferable? I can not make distinction among work, hard work, more work. In my understanding, the possibilities are already maximized, work is what actualizes potentialities and creates reality. No work ‘guarantees’ results, impact or an intended reality, but all work ‘guarantees’ change. As I ponder how work actualizes intent, I believe there is only the actor’s judgment to determine. Yet the collective action of a population does not rest on a singular intent but what it effects becomes our unintentional reality almost by definition. I find this unintentional or unintelligent reality somewhat beautiful.

To believe such community is informed by a spiritual leader does not explain anything. Zizek belief of our natural state doesn’t make sense to me. And his philosophy elevates the possibility of a populist leaders. As communities of like minded people navigate the conflicts among themselves, our history is made. I am learning on my Raspberry Pi V4 with 4GB Ram. It has been a couple of days and I have about 40% of the Blockchain. I have had to restart it a couple of times, but so far it is running cooler (mid 50’s) than it did when I was running a Lightning Node with RaspiBlitz. If it works out I will probably spin up start9 on an old Mac mini with 16GB Ram and a SSD.

I should have said it was my great nephew (~20 years old) who looks for moral clarity in the events of today. As the young person he is, he believes that there is some eternal, transcendental truth existing outside of our experience by which we are able to make sense of our experience. Being an old man, I was no help. I beleive that the sense we make or our experience is within the communities we share our perspectives which allows for the emergence of our shared reality. The will to power has always made more sense to me than the unmoved mover.

I take myself to be more of a skeptic than a critic regarding democracy. I agree that some measure of the expression of the people’s ‘will’ seems necessary to satisfy the definition of democracy. Perhaps that could be done by vote, but I reject the assumptions necessary to synthesize a totality of votes into an expression of the people’s will.
I am all in with the transparent technologies that allow for communities of like minded people to emerge through the exchange of ideas. The technology you are building may have some value in the communities that accept that technology. In those communities where it is imposed, I will always have doubt.

They are both what emerges within a community of like-minded thinkers sharing their perspectives. Those things exists only within the narratives of those communities. I can no longer understand the outcomes of collective human action as being driven by anything other than individual belief - through all the ways nature has for instilling and manifesting belief. These outcome, and our history, are not driven by collective intent or intelligence.
The concept of individual intelligence using information to precipitate an intended outcome does not generalize to a concept of a collective intent. The sum of individual intents at work is enough to result in our un-intended and unintelligent outcomes. Not that that is a bad thing. It makes the world much more interesting as we orient to those things worthy of belief.

I am not convinced that Bitcoin can apply force to the government to make it do anything. The goodness of an idea lies in the understanding of those who act on that idea, not in the idea itself. The completion among groups with different ideas is not based on the goodness of those ideas, and neither is the success of that completion based on truth, goodness or justice. If we don’t act with the understand that politics is the process by which the authority to wage war, tax and imprison emerges into our world, that doesn’t negate the actions of others.
The war among those with ideas is no less fierce and requires warriors. Just doing my part.

Understanding that change is unintended and unintelligent (and without cause) is a challenge. With regard to testing AI to see if it works, what is your criteria for success? The only criteria I know is whether AI’s response somehow makes sense to me within the grasp of my own thinking. While I believe I will never know whether the theories, theologies and theatrics of my own experience will reveal truth, I am comfortable that it will reveal a course of action that may benefit me. Yet when I look for the courses of action that others recommend, I find too many that are abhorrent to my understanding.
I came to these theories of change through a few of books that I recommend:
- The Square and the Tower: Networks and Power, from the Freemasons to Facebook, by Niall Ferguson
- The Secret of Our Success: How Culture Is Driving Human Evolution, Domesticating Our Species, and Making Us Smarter, by Joseph Henrich
- The Knowledge Machine: How Irrationality Created Modern Science, by Michael Strevens
They all speak to a process of ‘group think’ that drives emergence, but it doesn’t cause it. Samo Burma was on the DemystifySci Podcast recently also talking of such things:

Thank you for your response. Can you share where you get your understanding of such things: DAOs, Circular Economy and the sorts of ‘possible’ alternatives to the status quo. I would like to learn more about them and whether I can make sense of how they really might become threats to the status quo, that is, the complex stability defended by intelligence community, corporate media, academia and big-tech. Those defenders seems to me behaving with acknowledgment that these possibilities are threats.
I also associate some of the changes in my experience to the unintended consequences of the pandemic (actually I associate most change with unintended consequences). Lately I have become very interested in evolutionary science, complex adaptive systems and self ordering systems. Nevertheless, I am also reading Matt Taibbi laments of the activities of the deep-state to suppress the information that might allow for the emergence of novelty. I also read that the intelligence community is already the biggest editor of Wikipedia which creates another wonder as to how process information from that source.
Please share with me the theories that allow you to believe that structures offering alternatives to status quo social organizations emerge. I am inclined to believe this myself, but I also watch the efforts to suppress them.
