While I understand and agree that "Cool URIs never change", it's such a drag having to worry about it every time I want to change domains or blogging tools or whatever. I'd love to never have to create another redirect, and wish my 404 page could just be a shrug emoji.

You know what's weird? I've spent a couple hours today cleaning my #Emacs init.el file and re-writing my notmuch config (I'm switching back from Mu4e). That's not the weird part. The weird part is that nearly everything else I've typed today has been in a browser window via SilverBullet. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I know we're supposed to find the little imperfections of film photographs to be charming, but mishaps like not sealing the JOBO tank and having chemicals leak out while light leaks in during processing are very much not charming.

My garage workbench (2024). The handset hanging on the left is my dad's lineman's handset from when he worked at Michigan Bell (before the phone company breakup). He called it a "Butt in" 😄. When I worked construction, I often used it to make calls by tapping into residential phone lines at the cross-box.

I received a Canon AE-1 Program as a high school graduation gift in 1982. That one was lost at some point, so in a bout of nostalgia, I bought a replacement in 2013. I thought that was lost, too, but recently found it in a cabinet. The battery arrived today, so I burned through a roll of HP5 around the house, just to see if it still works. I see images on the roll. It's hanging to dry now. Pretty cool.

The FM2n arrived. It's not that much bigger than an OM. Or Leica M for that matter. Having to pull out the advance lever to turn on the meter is going to take getting used to. On the plus side, I don't think it's going to poke my eye out like some commenters suggested. On the minus side, I can't see all the aperture, shutter, and meter readings at the same time wearing glasses. Still, it's kind of gorgeous.

I scanned a roll of film (Tri-X) this morning. Post-processing involves almost no effort. Heal some dust spots and maybe tweak contrast, and that's it. I never get away with that when processing digital photos. It shouldn't matter, but I can't help but overthink everything about every digital image.

Speaking of the Stylus Epic I bought in 2004. Just finished a roll in it today. The tape is there because there's a light leak in the bottom, so I have to tape it up. Chemicals are warming up now.

I just impulse ordered an FM2n from KEH. I still have a few lenses from before I sold the F3. Should be fun! I'm a left-eye shooter by default and I wear glasses, so we'll see if the whole pull-the-advance-lever-out-a-little is a problem for me. Worth a try.

Someone might suggest that you should use plastic Patterson reels for film development. If that happens, nod politely and then quickly get as far away from that person as possible before they give you even more terrible advice. Go buy some Hewes metal reels on your way home and live a happy life.
