## Kaspersky Is an Unacceptable Risk
#### Observations:
Kaspersky software can no longer be purchased in the USA as of July 20th, 2024. I will admit I am a fan of their products and it pains me that I am no longer able to use them.
Kasperky ran into some trouble with the US government years ago when a negligent malware developer for one of our three letter agencies left some code in the open on their workstation. The installation of Kaspersky identified that code as malicious. As with all EDR solutions encountering something new, it uploaded various data to it's back end servers so that this new potential threat could be analyzed. Such analysis is necessary to identify and mitigate new threats.
Kaspersky then publicly asked questions why this three letter agency was writing malware and they shared the details of the code with the pubic so they could be protected.
That apparently was a crime in the eyes of said three letter agencies and the march to smearing their name has never stopped.
Now you can't purchase their software from within the USA...but to be fair...for very valid reasons. The USA and Russia are in a proxy war in Ukraine. We are not friends but enemies once again. As such, there is a valid security concern in using their software. This article gets into some of those reasons.
