don’t even get me started on AI in the terminal. i, like every honest dev, do not understand enough CLI switches and subcommands to actually be productive. and yes, i do appreciate a little help
and while it’s there, yeah, i’ll be petty, i’ll ask for things i definitely know how to do. bc the CLI sucks and this really is an improvement

i played with evil. yes, i’m talking about #Cursor
the problem with Cursor is it’s done too damn well. the #AI integration is always exactly where you need it when you need it.
the tab completion is…it just works. i always thought Copilot’s was janky af, but Cursor’s feels like it’s automating boring tasks, not writing the program for you
which is ironic, because with the Composer, it really is writing the program for you, but since it’s initiated by you, there’s no loss of control

Prompt caching in #Claude announced today. They claim it reduces costs by “up to 90%”. To me, that says they expect people to use the context instead of #RAG. Include whole databases of text in every prompt.

haha yeah, i set it up that way for my kids, so when they talk to it, it talks up to them instead of down. they love it, but it’s pretty frustrating to forget that it’s configured that way

i don’t understand how people see the xz incident and conclude that open source is insecure. That level of social engineering could easily have worked on a company as well, but it was detected *because* it was open source. All other mechanisms failed, and it was just some random guy poking around that discovered it. That kind of scrutiny doesn’t happen on closed source systems
