On October 7th, my cousin was camping in the south of Israel, close to areas attacked by Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. To this day, the thought of her being kidnapped, or worse, haunts me. An acquaintance from my Israeli college days lives in one of the kibbutzim attacked on October 7th and lost family in the attacks.
But despite such close proximity to the victims of Oct 7th, I don’t write much about them.

But that's not how dehumanization work. Dehumanization is about ignoring (or erasing) the needs of others, it's about a lack of empathy for them: for example trying to "destroy Hamas", no matter what the cost to civilians; collective punishment; finding all sorts of reasons (human shields, etc) to justify mass killings, etc

And it's not a friend visiting Israel but some of my family members visiting family in Tel Aviv. I know very well what it's like to care about safety, but the way Israel is responding to Oct 7th goes way, way beyond security. And most of my friends and family in Israel, as well as what I read on social media and in the media, do show clear dehumanization of Palestinians.

The post says "thousands of Jews". It doesn't say "all Jews", it doesn't say "most Jews", it doesn't say "Jews are protesting Israel", and it certainly doesn't say that most Jews agree with this position.
The post only says "thousands of Jews are occupying NYC's Grand Central Station to demand a ceasefire".

Holy moly, this is very encouraging: not just because BlueSky seems to be going in a good direction on algorithms and content moderation, but between the Fediverse and BlueSky, it looks like we’re going to get two networks, with different protocols, features, and policies; but both with decentralization, consent, and safety at the core.

Is it ethical to use ChatGPT?
I'm not talking about the ethical issues with *making* it, but with using it. Can we think of the data used to train ChatGPT as stolen, by extension making writing with ChatGPT an act of theft? Should we avoid it, or even boycott?
