Nowadays a plan to travel by train in the UK is accompanied by extreme fretful uncertainty right up till you arrive home again (common to have to stand from London-Newcastle, for example, so managing to get ON a train is only the beginning of the ordeal)... one spends days beforehand checking all the sites and worrying...
