Today I harvested 44lbs of potatoes. We planted 5lbs. Okay, so definitely growing in the ground is better than in grow bags. 😆
So far this year we're at 267lbs of produce. That includes 47lbs of apples from my little columnar apple trees. We still have some tomatoes, squashes, rutabagas, beets...and a looooot of carrots.
I'm so excited that things went so well this year. When I started my little garden 8 years ago I never expected it to do this well.

@npub1eav…g6f3 They’re good! A lot more spicy than previous types I’ve grown. I have to pace myself. 😆 That is only a small amount of the ones on the two plants I grew this year.

Today’s harvest theme is “red.”
I’m really enjoying the “Sprinter” variety of bell pepper. It’s nice to have peppers that ripen here in the PNW.

Today we went school supply shopping. And as we were walking past the notebooks, my 6-year-old pulled a beautiful writing journal off the shelf and declared she loved it more than anything and needed it for her stories.

#WritingWonders 8/18: Is your MC good at flirting?
Alex thinks he is. He’s attractive and basically an empath, so you’d think he’d be good at it. In reality, he tries too hard. Most of the time the only reason he’s succeeded in getting into a relationship is because the other person was already waiting for him to give a signal that he was interested. In at least one instance there was drunken poetry involved. He does not write poetry. It was terrible.

Hi, I’m Bara no Neko. Veterinarian and mom of 2 by day, would-be writer by night. Trying to write a fantasy book or 3 during stolen moments.
I would hang out with Tasha. She’s so happy and optimistic, which would be a breath of fresh air. I think it would be a fun day filled with running around in the forest, learning herbal remedies and talking with animals and trees.

Commander: "Evil" is such a strong word. Is it evil to seek to right an old wrong? I see what I'm doing as a necessary societal realignment. Will some people be opposed to upsetting the status quo? Certainly. They lack vision. Fortunately for them, I don't.
Arash: No. Obtaining justice is not evil.
Kohri: Yes, what he said. ((Wait...we're the baddies?))

#WritingWonders 6/18: Sharing?
When I was ~10, I wrote a story that I was proud of. I shared it with my cousin, who was my idol, and my best friend. They spent ~30 minutes ripping it apart sentence by sentence. 🙃 So. Sharing with people close to me is…hard. I have a couple of friends that have read excerpts (and have indulged my ramblings far more than I deserve). My husband has listened to me rant, but I haven’t had him read much. Doing something like this is a huge step forward for me.

Cass: How do I feel about…what? Why would you ask me such a silly question? Look, I’m probably going to end up stabbed, sacrificed, or lit on fire by the end of all this. I can’t even entertain the thought of marriage until I know I’m going to live more than a few months. Marriage vows should be more permanent than that. Maybe…I mean MAYBE…if that starts looking likely and I find the right person, it would be nice to have a partner in life.

#WritingWonders 6/11: How do you feel about killing characters?
It’s a necessary evil. Most of the characters that die I’ve known about since the beginning, so I write with that in mind. This does not mean I am less attached, unfortunately. Often the opposite. There have been some surprises. One character earned an unexpected reprieve recently. Unfortunately, the balance on that is that recently I decided to fill a hole in the plot with bodies. 😅

I think you really hit the nail on the head with the thought that admitting systemic racism exists (and we benefit from it!) takes away the ability to say they did things on their own. It’s a pride thing. At least I know it is for my family. And once they acknowledge it and accept it, then they might have to DO something about it, which is…hard.

This morning my 2.5-year-old son suddenly decided that he’s devastated that I go to work. He asked for 4 goodbye hugs and was clinging to me hard for each one. During the last one, in the tiniest, saddest voice, he asked: ”Pwease I can go wit you?”

Finally stringing up my tomatoes today. Didn’t quite have enough rope to finish, so I’ll have to do the rest tomorrow. I started supporting my tomatoes like this a few years ago and just love it!
I thinks both my cherry trees have spider mites. 😫I’m treating aggressively, but probably no cherries this year. I dream of the day Romeo and Juliet actually give me fruit. Fortunately everything else seems to be fruiting well!
