I had to use Markdown for the README of my latest project (https://github.com/aartaka/ed.modal) and I'm not happy about it. But it fits in with the general interop-paranoid-pragmatic position I'm adopting. I want to make my writing and software (=writing) accessible and portable across all the software there might be. And that means no Org Mode or Gemtext. Plain text, Markdown, HTML, rather. I'd bet everything on HTML, but it seems no major git forge supports HTML READMEs (and yes, I've asked! https://github.com/orgs/community/discussions/109580#discussioncomment-11159714 and https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-/issues/442779)
So Markdown it is.

@nprofile…s5e3 just that UIOP is this de-facto standard and isn't mentioned in the post. Not forcing it on you though, might be just my stupor about it.

@nprofile…s5e3 still reading, but already puzzled about native namestring parsing. UIOP has parse-native-namestring, which, although not being in the standard or built into the implementation, is almost always there and can be relied upon.

Lol, some bot scraped my website, extracted all the email there, and sent a phishing email about Namecheap domain renewal to each and every one of these emails. The problem is: I use a separate email for each of the 54 pages on my website. So I got 54 freaking identical phishing emails. How in the world am I supposed to believe such a crude work?

Next project I'm equally afraid and hyped about: re-implementing most of #HyperCard as #HTML form-based app. Requires:
- A working #HyperTalk (or the like) interpreter
- Card editing form that's flexible enough to build e.g. a calculator
- Script editing UI
- Smart evaluation that works well with old-school HTML-first UIs
- Server setup to handle all of these
Some of these are entirely new to me, and some don't have reasonable libs for in #CommonLisp, so I'm quite floored with the amount of work. But if I manage to make this thing, I'll have a reliable note-taking tool and a simple programming system!
(Now that I think about it, I don't really need a note-taking tool, because I use #hpda. And the simple programming system might as well be a headless HyperTalk interpreter...)

Okay, I've gotten back to #BASIC, and this time I dug deeper. Seems like there are means of abstractions after all. There are one-liner functions (DEF FN) and multi-line subroutines (GO SUB & RETURN.) So I can actually structure my programs without #GOTO-s! Maybe I'll implement #ed in BASIC after all...

You know your vision has gotten quite bad when you no longer see drops falling when it's showering outside 😨
I'll have to wait for a week to get new glasses, though. So I probably will be able to see the drops again soon. But the thing is alarming nonetheless.

Chat, anyone aware of old stupid #AI that I can use instead of these nasty #LLM -s? I have to waste my company's "AI allowance" on something, but don't want to use anything like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude/Cursor etc.There's even a joke (joke, right?) that they'll fire everyone not buying any #AI.

An idea: stupid #MarkovChains model trained on #Lisp code. Lisp code is structured so well that one can easily derive patterns from it even for an #AI as stupid and deranged as Markov Chains.
Just need to figure out what mental model to build out of Lisp AST.

Just realized that I'm really into DSLs. I'm trying to squeeze the maximum possible power out of restricted languages and runtimes. #Lisp LOOP and FORMAT, #ed, #CSS, JSONPath and other things. I like DSLs!
