I'm thinking about how to do SwiftWebUI in a useful way. A big thing in web is state handling, i.e. what would `@State` mean? In SwiftWebUI/WO this is just part of an in-server, sticky, session. Which is almost never what you want (and probably shouldn't be a convenience default).
Some state could be in a parameter, or a cookie, or an actual session, or in Redis.
But having the way of state handling part of the View feels a little icky, too tightly scoped.

Is there a reason that #SwiftLang doesn't allow calling a generic function, say `func x<T>() {}` using `x<Int>()` or `x<String>()` etc, but requires that artificial type parameter that is often used? (`x(type: Int.self)`).

What was the Sendable solution for keypathes? I wanted to do this, but it fails because KP is not Sendable but the Binding setter/getter closures are. (Capture of 'keyPath' with non-sendable type 'WritableKeyPath<B, Value>' in a `@Sendable` closure)

Chase is the worst bank I've ever experienced. Feels like every time I want to move money, they lock my account. Regardless how little, between accounts of mine, which have been approved with them via phone multiple times and been used for transfers before. It is just a mess.

I generally like Apple Notes a LOT. The problem is that I don't trust it a lot, notes being stored in iCloud in particular. What I'd really want is an Apple Notes, but it stores as markdownd and I can just push/pop and encrypt that using git. (yes, I know about Obsidian, I don't like the apps)

My macOS app #SVG Shaper for #SwiftUI is now available for free. Well, at least for the time being. I only sold 10 copies or so and it was more of a step towards something bigger (should I call it Karate?), so why not. Maybe it is still useful to someone 🙂
What it does? It converts SVG images (not every feature supported) into SwiftUI `View`s and `Shape`s.

@npub1kvt…0vtn I'm not entirely sure, because of statically linked dependencies and such. Homebrew bottles might a more similar thing than JS CDNs.
Also, because that was going through the news, maybe Tuist does stuff like that too? (caching binary artifacts, no idea!)

@npub1src…fms4 IMO the main difference is that Rust is ugly and Swift is beautiful. Both are quite unreadable for a reader (i.e. violate the principle that you write code for others to read). Too much `auto` (you don't _have to_ use it, but everyone does, because ... beauty).

@npub1src…fms4 Yes, why pool them? You don't pool the JVM threads either. I guess in the end JVM threads are cheaper than an OS thread resource wise, but it is not completely clear to me why this would have to be the case. In the end it is the same expensive thing: a sidelined stack and instruction pointer?
(that's also a reason why real async I/O is another magnitude more efficient than such constructs).

@npub1src…fms4 Triggers memories about the green threads Java had in the first releases (maybe even went into 1.0, don't remember). IIRC those have been awful. Maybe because they only ran on one OS thread and couldn't catch all blocking I/O? Don't quite remember.
Though in a way I never quite understood why this is better. The OS is doing exactly the same thing already for OS threads. An OS thread that is blocked on I/O doesn't consume CPU either.

Apart from #NeXTstep one of the environments which I found most inspiring (whether practical or not) is #Self. It is a #Smalltalk, but w/o classes. To create new objects you prefill one with the methods and defaults value you want, and then just copy it for use. And the fun thing is, even inheritance works through the prototypes.
And yes, this is how JavaScript works too, I think the only mainstream prototype based language. First thing people usually do is add classes 🙈

Looks like #SwiftData models really can't be marked as `Codable` 🙈 You'll get a

I _think_ that's because SwiftData considers `Codable` values as base types. Marking a Model as Codable breaks the overload for relationships.
Maybe adding a get/setValue overload on `Value: PersistentModel & Decodable` would fix the ambiguity?

A developer needs a certain amount of time to produce a software. This is what he should ask for when selling the software. It represents the amount of effort that went into it already. If he also wants to offer a subscription plan for - doing what exactly?, keep the customer happy somehow? support dark mode or XYZ? - that might be OK.
Either way the subscription should not be a replacement for the original effort, such a thing is plain financing that a *dev* shouldn’t do (maybe Apple should).
