I think Internet Archive and other libraries should be allowed to also lend digital copies.
(I also think AI companies should be required to get licenses for every text they scrape)
But the law and its interpretation isn't always what we'd like, and that's a risk IA should've taken into account. And I think it was reckless of them to endanger their primary goal of digital preservation by doing the righteous-but-risky ebook lending.

you don't need to index the whole internet. At least 80% of it is trash. And you don't even need to index all of the remaining 20%. You only need to have more relevant links on most topics than top 5 results in google, and these days it should be easy, since google results are trash
