yeah this is true. I hadn't considered this. At this point it looks like Europe is happy to slice off their nose to spite their face. Their deindustrialisation at the hands of USA is going on with no resistance. I wonder if this is a result of USA terraforming their political landscape in the wake of WW2 or if this propensity to oppose us asiatics at all cost is something that has existed since before that.

I personally believe that the war still is and always has been about "containing*" Russia. They are just trying this new natural resources angle because the public is getting tired of the war.
* containment involves installing a leadership pliant to American interests and also probably balkanisation
