@npub16uk…pv7k I've queried the performance of a few software products from large corporations where the corporations "scientist" argued that their h-index score absolved the product from all questions. While I laugh out loud, the non-technical management often accept that defence. Quoting academic metrics when under pressure is a good sign of a bad scientist (and crap software).

@npub16uk…pv7k is this not true of most commercial software houses? Mathworks, IBM, all specialist industry software vendors with their insane licencing costs for bloated Windows apps running through flaky licence servers, tightly coupled with MS Office and Chrome, with no patches or updates outside of annual contract renewals. All tied up with cozy relationships with industry regulators to enforce their market dominance forever.

@npub1dn4…cue6 @npub16uk…pv7k the problem I see is Microsoft and co are abandoning the front end to sneak around the back end, so they drop their crappy GUI apps to embrace the open source tools, pack them with features that depend on their cloud services and bake in their dependency. It's insidious. If the future isn't Windows then they'll make damn sure it's Linux on Azure.

@npub188q…3jlx is it that ad revenue isn't sufficient, or is it this new era of insatiable corporate profit? No amount seems to be enough at the moment, even if these platforms only showed adverts it would continue to spiral.
