I'm getting slightly fed up with running our ipsec VPNs on Ubuntu servers.
I started with Redhat and Arch for personal use. There's always something in Ubuntu that feels unintuitive and works in a weird way.
I could ditch it and use #freebsd + PF + iked. Multiple ipsec tunels on one host + need routing to other systems via something like haproxy - typical firewall + vpn setup. Can #bsd accommodate me?

@npub1pue…dpuv Definitely Neovim. It has huge user base, many commiters and paying supporters and thriving plugin ecosystem based on Lua. I believe it's exactly 10 yo at this point.

+ OpenBSD mailing lists
- driver management
- wifi setup
-/+ manual patching
#freebsd
+ Freebsd handbook
+ Vast port collection
+ Wifi works right after install
+ Upgrade / automated patching
- Laptop media keys not working by default
-/+ Ports building
OpenBSD would be my goto for older machines or server, FreeBSD has enough ports to be usable as daily driver. Looking forward to test it on newer PCs!

Massive chill with #openbsd. Got it installed, now eating chips, reading Absolute Openbsd by M.W. Lucas and trying some stuff.
Surprised how many things worked out of the box! Backlight controls, wifi drivers and more.

#openbsd users, why did you choose OpenBSD specifically? I'd like to know the profound but also the most superficial reasons (those especially, they come straight from the :underheart: !)

@npub1gfd…7gg6 I think foss software is getting much better. Some proprietary software (I'm looking at you Adobe and Microsoft) gets bloated, filled with spyware. And then we have subscriptions...
