I remember when I was in university, I attended a presentation by someone who said that the job of a compiler is to preserve the observable behavior of the program, but otherwise will do whatever it wants to the program
At the time, I was like “psh, no - I wrote a line of code and I expect the compiler to faithfully reproduce exactly what I said down to the letter”

Thinking a bit more, I suppose a more likely explanation is that there has been a bug in Windows (presumably relating to page faults) for a long time that no one noticed, and some innocuous update to some innocuous software ended up triggering it. And it just happens that lots of people use the software via an autoupdater and the symptom of the bug is relatively severe
(But this is all a theory; I know nothing)

I don’t understand why CrowdStrike is releasing drivers in the first place.
What is C-00000291*.sys even supposed to do? And why have tons of people set up their computers to install .sys files from a cybersecurity company in the first place?
Maybe it’s my background, but like I kind of don’t understand why/how a non-OS vendor company can (or thinks they can) improve the security of another company’s OS.
This whole situation is just baffling to me

I remember it took me literal days to figure out the “umount” command doesn’t have the letter “n” in it
I kept reading online about people saying “use umount” and every time I tried, it said “unmount: command not found”
I felt so stupid when I figured it out
And then I thought, no, it is not *me* who is stupid, it is whoever named that fucking command and deleted a random letter from the middle of it

I realize that this may be obvious, but the Microsoft story seems to be:
1. Spend 7.5 billion dollars buying Bethesda
2. Spend 68 billion dollars buying Activision
2. Lay off thousands of people in the gaming division
3. Close 5 or 6 game studios
This story suuuure makes them look like they don’t know what the hell they’re doing

I don’t understand this news that 🎃 is unable to pay his $454 million legal penalty.
Sell a fucking building, man. Just because you can’t make the payment without selling a building doesn’t mean you can’t make the payment.
Hopefully the judge will see right through this nonsense

Bold opinion: The benefit of the existence state quarters (i.e. curiosity, interest, learning more about the states) is smaller than the drawback that many quarters randomly don't work in vending machines
