Curious why quotes aren’t allowed to be multiline by default in most programming languages.
In terms of parsing it seems completely unambiguous: you parse a quote and don’t stop consuming until you reach an (unescaped) quote. Newlines don’t factor in at all.

Yesterday I had to perform the same regex file & replace on a bunch of files for the Nth time and it finally pushed me over the edge to make something I’ve wanted to make for years:
A simple syntax for writing sequences of find & replace operations as "scripts" you can apply to different files.
But I’m really struggling to figure out a good name. Help?
Looking for something short (ideally 4-5 chars).

@npub1gx5…cn6r There is a very short delay between the presenter voice and the mic which makes for jarring double audio for those sitting at the front, not sure if AV can do anything about it.

Basically I want to tell npm "if I'm running this locally, load package specifier A from this local folder instead" without any intervention on my part.

If you are working on two npm packages, on of which depends on the other (say B depends on A), what is your process for making changes to A and trying them out on B without npm publish?
So far the best I’ve found is changing the package specifier to point to the local repo + npm install but there must be something faster and less error-prone? (so many times I forgot to change it back and committed the package.json with the local specifier!)

Realization: CSS Nesting also allows you to basically do "else" clauses in selectors.

Wireless charging is the epitome of the kind of innovation that is a solution in need a problem.
It’s slower to charge, finicky to position your phone correctly (and if you fail you wake up to a dead phone), and you can’t use it while it’s charging.
Unclear what the benefit is. Interoperability? USB-C gives us that. Saving time? But it takes longer to position your phone over the charger.
What am I missing? 🤔

@npub1ggl…wlnf Clipping means instead of doing something more sophisticated to bring the color within screen gamut you just convert it to RGB and clip to (0%, 100%). This tends to produce good results when slightly OOG but pretty bad results the farthest out of gamut you go.

@npub1ggl…wlnf Yes, if you’re in gamut of the output device. But you lose some perceptual uniformity when out of gamut. Still better than HSL but less so in that case (especially when there’s no gamut mapping).

I hate to say “I told you so”, but @svgeesus and I did warn browser vendors that shipping wide gamut support without gamut mapping would render these color spaces almost unusable.
They thought we were exaggerating.
They thought getting out of gamut is an edge case.
They thought clipping was “good enough”.
Well… this is one of these times that I’m really not happy to have been right. 😕
