Small lightweight vehicles have never made good profits for manufacturers so they prefer to increase the size and pile on extra features to justify the cost. We need radical govt intervention to either dramatically increase the cost of larger heavier vehicles or to subsidise lightweight vehicles. But in 'free market' economies where politicians are owned by big business that won't happen.
