Crab apples have been cultivated since the Neolithic Age. Signs of crab apple fruits were found in Danish coffins dating from the Early Bronze Age.
It’s other names include bittersgall, gribble, reap hooks, scroggy, sour grabs, and wilding-tree. They’re also called grindstone apples since they were once used for sharpening knives.

These photos don't show it properly but the gold leaves are a beautiful warm ochre colour which has a subtle metallic shine when the light hits it right, it's my current obsession

The bluebell is one of the ‘indicator species‘ of ancient woodland, meaning woods that have been in existence since at least 1600.
The Woodland Trust thinks that some bluebells may even mark remnants of the original wildwood that covered Britain after the last Ice Age
Its sap was once used in bookbinding and to glue the feathers on the shaft of an arrow.

Daisy comes from ‘day’s eye’. This is because the flower opens when the Sun comes up and closes at dusk (or in wet weather).
It is the birth flower for April.
(The photo doesn’t show it well, but when the light catches the leaf pattern they are a subtle metallic gold)

Thought I was feeling better but it turns out that very much isn’t the case!
On the bright side I have a tiny bit of ice cream left which might soothe the sore throat.
I’m off to curl up under a blanket, read something (possibly Pratchett) and relax for the evening 🤒😴
