Installing Windows for the first time in a decade for my parents.
Never before have I seen such a trash tier operating system. It doesn't even feel like you own you own computer anymore.
- Trying to convince you to create a online Live account to use your computer.
- Shoving junk you don't need down your throat. Pinning it all to the start menu.
- Begging you not to download a better browser, begging you again when you change all the web defaults by hand.
- Begging you to use OneDrive.
- Claiming that OneDrive and an online account is a "security" feature.
- Even the god damn Photo viewer app is full of junk now. And the most recommended alternative online is malware.
- Doing it all again when you run a software update.
AND trying to charge you $249.99 for a HOME license on the app store for the privilege of not owning your own computer.
Long live Linux, you'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands.

@npub1rl7…xawh this graph is awful because it looks like things are getting worse. But what it actually means is more games are getting tested, hence the percentage of verified games is shrinking.

They bring to the table CloudLinux on a free OS (doesn't support CentOS Stream).
Maybe the GPL is too permissive here, but how does a company like RHEL exist if someone can just swing by and steal your lunch?
I'd argue the recent NASA support contract with CIQ/Rocky was the last straw, and CIQ should have never won the contract off the back of RHEL without bringing anything unique to the table (and no, ARM support isn't it).

I fully blame Rocky and CIQ for breaching the moral and ethical obligations under FOSS by engaging aggressively in a space using someone else's software. What they're doing is legal, but they're being assholes too.

@npub1wst…ez75 recently we've seen Instagram and Reddit playing dodgey buggers trying to stop the flow of users going to the fediverse.
Doing things like shadow banning hashtags and blocking links to fediverse sites.
At the very least its our moral obligation that Facebook doesn't extract a cent of value from the fediverse. It's clear they think it'll be profitable for them. It's our turn to act like hyper capitalistic anti competitive assholes now and to stop them.

@npub1wst…ez75 did you know your Mastodon instance has a code or conduct against any sort of advocacy content? Even this post would technically be in violation. Really makes me wonder why people are still on fosstodon.

@npub1wst…ez75 there's plenty of reasons to not federate with Facebook:
It's tainted with non free code.
Ideologically dislike the company, and don't trust them with your data due to their repeated and blatant misuse of the data.
F*CK Zuckerberg.
There's absolutely no way they'll comply with post deletion settings. Ie. My content expiring after X months. Facebook should be required to comply with the standard here. Even GDPR is totally hazy here.
People think they'll be able to tap into messenger and message their friends and family - you won't, and never will. And still wouldn't trust them with your data.
People on Facebook are god awful and won't know that they're going full Karen on someone on another site.

@npub1wst…ez75 wait, we’re not blaming Google for this?
Googles label thing doesn’t even work in regular mail clients. It’s their fault that labels aren’t just folders. And it was done intentionally to keep you within the Google interface and app ecosystem and to stop you using Apple mail or Outlook.
Sorry, but this is all on Google.

If I was Mullvad I’d be dumping any server they touched and rearchitect on RISC.
