Situation almost back to normal! It *can't* take much longer now can it? - blood levels have stabilized, Hb still a bit low, but other than that things are looking good. A lot less bowel pains, they're not gone yet, but it's not even close to what it was two months ago.

I haven't been around much - not due to disinterest but SNAFU: for at least the last seven weeks I've progressively been struggling with what became a very nasty episode of intestinal inflammation due to Crohn's disease. Can't really sit normally due to the pressure it incurs on the bowels. I'm on Prednisone and immunosuppressants, and am getting all kinds of shenanigans at the hospital next month. So I'm currently in emergency-only mode, can't wait until the situation turns back to normal.

In the mean time you can use startpage.com, it's very similar and has some other useful features (like not tracking you, using POST instead of GET for search, the ability to turn off promotional messages)

Man I know y'all are right about Telegram being insecure. But I really like the multiple device support - Signal doesn't have that - someone sends me a msg and I get notified everywhere, in order of last device used with some delay before it goes to the next device. It's a convenient app, I don't care about its "stories" and "channels" features, and, its lack of encryption.. sigh you're right. What should I switch over to? Matrix?

Linux depending on small projects like xz is not an issue in and of itself – malicious code can be committed by anyone, individuals, universities, big corporations, state actors. If the fallout from the xz-debacle turns out to be $bigcorp pulling power to themselves, for example by going the "we can only trust commercial vendors who out of the good of their hearts contribute to foss", that will leave a very bad taste in my mouth.

Although I haven't been interacting much on either platform, over the last few months I've been enjoying the Fediverse much more than Twitter, mostly due to a significantly better signal to noise ratio. I've locked my account on Twitter because I've grown annoyed with the amount of spampronbot follows. Meanwhile there's a lot more valuable content on the Fediverse world timeline and a lot less politically loaded content.

@npub1grq…2mc0 LOL actually we had ArchLinux way back when, when they were still using sysv style init. But they moved to systemd really -really- early and it broke our systems. That was the reason I actually moved everything *away* from Arch.
But... recently I did migrate a mailserver to ArchLinux. So it's in the mix 😁

Nix the package manager, or NixOS the distribution?
Took me 1,5 years since my first start to get a little bit of a hang of NixOS. But now I'm comfortable enough. Still need to migrate a number of things but when done, I'm going to decommission the old servers one at a time and replace them with a new one. Exciting :)

Our first nixos-powered server. Still developing on it, so I'm not adding it to the pool yet.
Everything is configured that I can simply duplicate the config to other servers and it will even generate the appropriate SSL certificates, with LetsEncrypt and an API-connection to our hosting provider, for DNS.
Really awesome how this is coming together. :)

One of the first things one learns when running a social network, usually the hard way, is that there are actual people that thrive on upsetting as many people as possible, and on trying to destroy the good things others have spent time building.
But that's not a surprise.
What IS surprising to me however is that so many people in our circles are vulnerable to this type of exploit. I even see some querulants trying to convince others that "ZeroNode will fall."
