we asked sellers: do you want a percentage of your daily sales auto-converted to #bitcoin, or accept bitcoin directly. they said auto-convert. so we did that.
we're going to enable sellers to accept bitcoin directly. we did this all they way back in 2014 for all of our online sellers. zero buyers used it.
it's not just a quick switch though. most #merchants will want/demand it converted automatically to fiat (this was actually our first product before we built the exchange in 2018). most merchants care deeply about line times. people fumbling around with phones to pay means missed sales due to longer lines. all fixable, but it's a concern.
i don't think this time around usage will be much. i hope i'm wrong. we're building something for people that *may* want to spend their bitcoin, in a cycle where people may not actually want to spend their bitcoin because it's going up so much. but we're going to try again on principle, and see what happens. i want bitcoin to become the native currency of the internet above all else.
the greatest at scale example of bitcoin as every day payments are zaps on #nostr. worth consideration.

The month of August has been largely uneventful for Bitcoin so far, with the premier cryptocurrency having struggled to reclaim the $65,000 price mark since August 2. Currently, Bitcoin is slightly below $60,000 as the bulls and bears seek to grab control in what has been a range-bound market for the past week. Interestingly, CryptoQuant analyst XBTManager has shared revelations_ that indicate the BTC market is likely to maintain its current bearish form for the time being. Wide Spot-Perpetual Gap Spells Trouble For Bitcoin On August 16, XBTManager reported that Bitcoin's Spot-Perpetual Price Gap, as tracked on the Binance exchange, is continually in a negative form indicating that the asset may record more price loss due to a sustained selling pressure. For context, a Spot-Perpetual Price gap occurs when there is a difference between the valuation of Bitcoin on the spot market which deals with the asset's actual price, and on the perpetual markets which allow traders to deal in speculations of the Bitcoin's future price. When the perpetual price is lower than the spot price as in the current case of Bitcoin, it indicates traders are massively offloading the asset in the perpetual futures market as they believe there could be an incoming price fall.
