Today a kid asked me if a person farted in a black hole if the smell could escape.
When I told him "no" he asked me if that was verified or my opinion.
I stated that it was my informed opinion based on my understanding of physics.

Kid who came to see my planetarium last autumn showed up to the same library today to see it again and informed me that he checked it out himself and he's confident now that the planet is round, rotating on an axis and moving at a predictable speed.
His Dad was like "tell Okie how you did it."
The same way our ancestors did. They observed the sky over time and wrote down what they noticed.
You don't need to go to space. You just have to know what you're looking at and keep good records.
