Between switching my MIL over to @aaisp@social.aa.net.uk and disconnecting some distinctly dubious extension wiring, the internets at her house are better than they've ever been. Tomorrow's job is to sort the VOIP phones out and finish running cat5 for decent WiFi at the back of the house. (Phase 1 involved gratuitously breaking the *Dont Go In The Hole* rule and crawling an alarmingly long way through the land of the spiders below the floorboards with a reel of cable and a reassuringly expensive head torch.)

Good point. USB isn't a terrible idea - it can do 100W. Completely inappropriate connectors, of course...

Isn't this just the local mains socket? E-bike manufacturers have missed a trick by not integrating the charger with the battery pack (so it just needs a cable, rather than a power brick) to make things more convenient for people who want to charge on the go.

Actually, isn't the whole problem that the Stargate is intelligent enough *not* to allow a flow of air/water through the wormhole? Otherwise you could just wait for the pressure to equalise and now you have two problems.

If you can transport a person from A to B by converting their molecules into a datastream, it doesn't seem too tricky to skip some of the nitrogen when you reassemble them... The wormhole might be problematic thobut.
