you have to create an account and then request to join the group. Like most forums, but with each group having its own membership unlike traditional forums where there is a single group.

yes, irc needs a bouncer to effectively participate asynchronously. It is difficult to use a mobile app due to this. Else you will usually miss replies to your questions. ircv3 has added this feature but most popular servers don't have support for this. These also have better moderation options.

I'd assume you are using byzantium. Hopefully we will see crimson soon, which will have some improvements. You could also try mobian bookworm which is reasonably stable. I'm currently using Mobian trixie, which has some regressions like missing echo cancellation and unstable modem data connection.

yes, you will need an account to participate. It is a self hosted version of loomio.org, which is a Free Software collaborative decision making platform. Different types of polls are available for us to use.

https://app.prose.org looks pretty neat - you can login with your xmpp id, looks like finally we have a pretty polished #xmpp product - apps for all platforms that aims to match slack - those who use slack can say how far they succeeded. Looks like finally xmpp can match #matrix on client side on looks and features. #prose
Just remember it is still in development and expected to be available by end of the year.
