I ran out of lift and landed my glider on said RAF airfield and got permission to call for a tug aircraft to come and fetch me. I got it wrong pushing my glider to the start of the runway while waiting for the tug. It happened that the Navy liaison chap on the airfield was himself a glider pilot so he came over to sort me out.

Me neither.
Well, except for that time I misunderstood some instructions on an RAF airfield which resulted in them sending a Navy officer with a revolver over in a Land Rover to put me right. That's just about “armed forces being deployed”, isn't it? Slightly smaller scale, I admit.

Yep, always good to be on the electoral register just in case but I've been confused by a number of sources, particularly the Guardian, saying “UK” when there's no sign of anything happening locally so I did a little investigation the other day and it seemed it wasn't Scotland.

I read somewhere that ♳ and ♴ can be recycled, the rest not so much. No idea how authoritative that is, though.
Also, I understand that some plastics can be “recycled” in the sense that, though they can't be turned back into the original product, they can be reused as lower-grade material.

You can but then to get enough oxygen you have to have a pure oxygen environment (as they have inside the spacesuits). That's a problem as they found in the Apollo 1 fire [¹]. The Apollo spacecraft (both the command module and the lunar module) had a 5 psi pure oxygen atmosphere from shortly after launch (it depressurised from sea-level pressure during the ascent).
That's why the Apollo astronauts walked out of the crew building with their helmets on carrying that box - not their lunch but an oxygen supply (or rebreather????) - so they'd purge nitrogen on they way.
Michael Collins (Apollo 11 command module pilot) had some problems with joint pain during the ascent of his Gemini launch (which used the same system) so was careful to make sure he was zipped up as soon as possible for his Apollo launch to avoid that.
The Shuttle, Mir,, ISS and Soyuz all use(d) an oxygen/nitrogen mixture at more normal sea-level pressures so don't have this problem at launch but do need the pre-breath before EVAs.
