@npub1e92…tnc8 @npub1cmg…rzd2 Our instance is hosted. The hosting company charges by the number of active users. When we had open signup, we experienced steady growth, but it was obvious to me that most new users were junk accounts rather than legit users. To keep costs down and ensure the long-term financial viability of the server, we switched to manual signup. Our growth is slower, but more new users become engaged members.
