@npub1cmg…rzd2 It's been more than a year since I signed up for Mastodon. There was a small learning curve if I recall but I feel like that's more of a feature than a bug. Making something not completely easy filters out a lot of people who won't make many efforts in thought and practice in various aspects of their lives. It reminds me very much of the Usenet days in the 1990s. You had to have a certain level of brain power to just figure out how to set up your modem, find an ISP, figure out a whole bunch of other things...
To put it bluntly, I'd rather avoid places that make it easy for people to come running with their Johnson out and start, you know, "contributing".

My wife brought all these Christmas cookies back from a cookie party. She told me not to touch them as she wants to freeze some of them. They've been on the dining room table for four days and she hasn't frozen any of them. But I still can't eat any. As a person who would rather do nothing else but eat cookies this is married chubby guy edging.

@npub1hyk…3p33 They moved to Harbord street. Popped in there a few months ago. I seem to recall way back when they were at the Queen street location their used books were like hugely over priced. But then again, maybe their rent was crazy even back in the 1990s. Or maybe I just had weird ideas how much I wanted to pay for a ten year old copy of the Dosadi Experiment back in 1992.. The used book prices at their Harbord location seemed pretty reasonable last time I went.

Resale shop find. Took me a few months of hunting but I managed to build out the GoT series in softcover, though I have to sell it as a five book series with A Dance with Dragons in hardcover. Cost me about $9 for the whole series.

There's no government run by randomly picked people although there are government organizations and functions that do use a randomly selected body of citizens. Juries are probably an example, though there's some filtering there. But yeah my feeling is a Demarchy would be as successful as any other method of picking our leaders.

In the 80s we were entirely too cavalier about roofs being on fire, to the point where we collectively agreed to eschew even a rudimentary response, preferring to let the fire evolve naturally even if that meant allowing the roof -- and the very structure we were reveling in -- to burn down. No small wonder we survived our youth.
