A sci-fi/fantasy nerd, gamer geek (board games, video games, ttrpg), and into fiction writing.

I play tam and agogo in a samba drum and dance band, and occasionally djembe at drum circles.

I enjoy hatha yoga.

Reasonably good cook (specialising in soups and stews), a novice vegetable gardener.

I oppose the social security amendment bill. Punishing the poor for being poor does not make them magically become gainfully employed, societally contributing taxpayers. Sapping their already limited resources and energy on pointless bureaucratic hoops would actually leave them less able to pursue gainful employment.

Usually what happens is too many overripe bananas followed by too much banana bread, all summer long...

@nprofile…gyq6 If I was in charge: no one is allowed to export food until domestic demand is met.
Food sold locally would have to be priced based on the domestic market, i.e. if it doesn't sell because it costs too much and no one can afford to buy it, then it can't get sold at all, so lower the prices.
It's probably more complex to implement in practice, for example how you measure "domestic demand" (which would probably need annual review), but the basic strategy should be simple.

@npub1zg9…nh26 okay well technically (and to get super pedantic), there's "shoo ching" (harp) and "gan ching" (piano), and so I suspect "ching" actually started out referring to some ancient traditional Chinese instrument that looks like pianos and harps.

I used to love Asian basa (a type of catfish, sometimes called Swai). As flaky white freshwater fishes go, its texture rivals that of saltwater fish. In the U.S., it's available flash-frozen everywhere.
But here in New Zealand, none of the brands that get imported here seem to have any clue how to properly flash-freeze it so that it keeps the awesome texture. No matter how I cook it, it shrinks to a third of its size by losing all its water, and comes out like jelly. :(
