I want to write and run a Mastodon bot to post a "Gemini capsule a day" sort of thing - try to showcase some Gemini content that might get Fedi people interested in Gemini.
However with botsin.space shutting down I'm not quite sure where to run it.
@npub1t7d…pqpp is this something appropriate for mastodon.bsd.cafe? Or is there a different, more bot-focused, instance I should be using?

Ouch, Vimeo has bumped their prices from ~ USD100.00 to ~ USD132.00 per year.
I don't do a lot with Vimeo - mostly just sharing videos with friends and family, many unlisted. So it feels like something I could fairly safely move self-hosted.
PeerTube has fixed https://github.com/Chocobozzz/PeerTube/issues/944 and https://github.com/Chocobozzz/PeerTube/issues/3218 which means it's theoretically a suitable replacement for Vimeo for my purposes. I already self-host a Web server, Gemini capsule, and Jitsi Meet instance, so adding my own PeerTube instance wouldn't be _too_ much additional faff.
Question is, is there something simpler I could be doing?

Multiple packidges arrived. Kids now have 3 x refurbished Pixel 4s in rugged cases; plan for the weekend is to get LineageOS installed on all of them.
Will also be upgrading _my_ LineageOS installation (I'm also on a Pixel 4).
This is all being necessitated by the 3G network shutdown in Australia; they are happily running Pixel 2s on LineageOS right now, but those will stop being able to make calls (including emergency calls!) at the end of the month.
Hot tip: if you're in Australia and want to know if your phone will be e-waste in a week's time, SMS '3' to '3498' and your provider should let you know.

It feels weird scheduling maintenance for my own server :) But ... going to shut down the home server rack this weekend, clean out the cabinet and server, check for cables I've forgotten to label, check fastener tightness.
Also check that everything is properly upgraded / patched.
Any home lab folks got any regular maintenance tips they'd add to that list?

Selenium gurus ... any idea why we might be seeing intermittent Selenium timeouts, but only in CI?
It's baffled me to the point where I've filed a Selenium bug because I can't think what our codebase could be doing to provoke it.

Mattermost Playbooks are *so* good. Just had occasion to run one for a (minor) production incident.
In general, Mattermost is great, actually. We use it at work in a number of ways:
1. To manage Playbooks for various tasks (deployment, incident management, etc.)
2. To host Boards for async, remote, retros and the like.
3. To keep in touch with our community of contributors and editors.
4. To keep in touch as a team, given we're spread around the world in different TZs.
We're running the free community edition, hosting on EC2 in our AWS account.

I left the Microsoft world back in ~ 2011 to be a full time Ruby, Rails, & Web dev. It was such a relief to be operating in a world of open source libraries and frameworks.
Now I see entire companies built upon open source stacks using (Microsoft) TypeScript, running in (Microsoft) Visual Studio Code, collaborating on (Microsoft) GitHub, using (Microsoft) AI coding tools that plagiarise open source code, and running Linux _inside_ (Microsoft) Windows with WSL.
What the hell happened, hackers???

Can anyone recommend a PCI-E card for my desktop that (a) supports Wi-Fi and Ethernet, and (b) has good FreeBSD support? Thanks in advance for any advice 🙏
My MSI motherboard has Mediatek networking gear; the FreeBSD drivers are a WIP. I'm working around the WiFi issue with a USB N10 dongle, but have no Ethernet for the time being 😰

Ryzen 7900X desktop running FreeBSD 14.1. Back to running FreeBSD as a daily driver after some years on Linux Mint (which I'll be keeping around for gaming). Dual boot the easy way (separate M2 SSDs).

Well that was a lot less painful than I expected! Took just a few minutes to migrate from the emacs.ch instance to bsd.cafe.
Plus I took the opportunity to change my avatar; I commissioned it a while ago from a friend's 12 year old daughter. She just completed a digital version, so that's what I'm now using.
