As the price rises with the expectation of it rising higher quicker than is typical, because it's a bull run, people who have Bitcoin hold harder and people who don't want it more. I love shopping at thrift stores. It's like a surprise everytime. You never know what you're going to find!
Then there's the feel good aspect of helping reduce waste, giving new life to someone else's "trash".
But when I was a kid that was all we ever shopped at, so for a long time as an adult I never stepped foot in one and just bought stuff new. Now I've flipped and in the last year or so my thrift store use has skyrocketed, and I'm excited to see what I'll find each time I enter. 😁
High quality shirts, DVD and Blu-ray copies of movies and even the occasional 4K copy, kitchen appliances like Zojirushi bread machines ($300 MSRP for $40 or less!), Blu-ray players, Corelle dishes, 80s floral China sets, Board games...
Even an ENTIRE LEATHER COUCH that leans back with extending leg support for $99! Love that thing.
Spend more time treasure hunting at thrift stores. It's fun. 😆

When feeling like the world is going to shit, here's a reminder of what we have in abundance today for the lowest cost in history:
Temperature control.
(Central Air, water heaters, refrigerators, heating appliances, etc.)
Communication methods.
(Email, SMS, chat apps, phone calls, video conferencing, forums, etc.)
Easy movement across long distances.
(Bicycles, cars, trains, planes, ships, etc.)
Clothing.
(Jackets, sweaters, shirts, pants, socks, shoes, gloves, etc.)
Food.
(Fruit and vegetables, meat of all types, grains, spices, sauces, canned goods, prepared foods, frozen foods, etc. As measured in gold, quality food has never been lower cost.)
Entertainment.
(Movies, TV shows, books, video games, tabletop games, live performances, politics, etc.)
And so much more.
It's not obvious because each year is harder than the last due to broken money, adopt a Bitcoin standard and it all becomes clear. Life is good, and it's getting better every day. You can and will achieve the life of your dreams by adopting sound money.

Good Afternoon Nostr, I've been playing with some numbers the last few days and would like to hear opinions on the results.
Visuals of the data I'm referring to are attached.
Taking data from the mining network:
Hashrate increases divided by ASIC efficiency gains, multiplied by the reduced value of the dollar overtime (as a substitute for expected global decentralized miner cost reduction activity over time), multiplied by the halving effect on the price (1*2^X, X = number of halvings), gives us a multiplier that can be applied for per coin mining cost extrapolation.
I started with Jan 1, 2015 as before that date the block time was quite variable and not very stable around the 10 minute target, I feel anything before that date can be considered an outlier.
Jan 1, 2015 the price was $314, and it cost $234 to mine a Bitcoin.
From Jan 1, 2015 to Jan 1, 2025 hashrate increased approx 2500x, top ASIC efficiency went up 33.33x, dollar value dropped 46%, and there were 3 halvings in 2016/2020/2024 leading to an 8x multiplier on the price. Now there are a ton of variables not considered here, and the global and decentralized nature of the network leaves a lot that really can't be precisely calculated, so given the rather simple nature of this extrapolation anything somewhat close to actual values would be encouraging. So let's do the math.
$314 * (2500 / 33.33) * 0.54 * 8 = $102,460.
$234 * (2500 / 33.33) * 0.54 * 8 = $76,356
Jan 1, 2025 the price was $94,420, and the mining cost was $91,132.
$94,420 / $102,460 = 93% of extrapolation.
$91,132 / $76,356 = 119% of extrapolation.
Impressively close.
I then did this math for extrapolating the price from 2015 to every year after until 2025 and charted each result, along with the same extrapolation for mining costs, alongside actual values observed. That's the excel chart screenshot. Interesting how the actual price data bounces around the extrapolated price expectations based only on the mining network data explained above. Remember, the only actual price data used in the extrapolated prices is the initial price at the start yet.
Further, if we remove the halving multiplier effect from the extrapolated $102k price, to find the average annual increase without it, the price might've risen from $314 to $12,667.25 over that decade. That's an average annual increase over 10 years of 44.89505%.
Adding the halving's back in as sudden jumps every 4 years, and we have an equation to run in desmos that I then plotted the mining cost data points onto. The equation doesn't format correctly here so you can see it in the screenshots attached. The extrapolations in Desmos are... wild. Is this chart the most bullish of all?
I make no claims that this is what will happen, just that the data suggests it might. Note that from what I can tell neither the price nor the mining cost has fallen below the blue lines in Desmos since breaking through the $100 cost to mine level in Nov 2013's bull run. Nearly 12 years above this trend and never breaking it. I anchored the chart on the 2016 halving data and mining cost of $500 per coin.
Would love to hear the Nostr community's take on this, it was fun putting together and the data output is quite interesting IMO. Only time will tell if it continues to be accurate, but it would be quite something to see if it does.

That's the hard part. Deciding the safest place to store value temporarily. There's nothing anywhere near as good as Bitcoin long term, especially from a morality standpoint.
Holding dollars fuels wars and censorship thanks to the 7% a year debasement.
Holding traditional company stocks exposes funds to high counterparty risks while also fueling the growth of monopolies.
Buying property isn't really viable as you'd be gambling on your ability to resell with precision. Plus environmental risks as were reminded of with the recent destruction of properties from the California fires.
Buying Gold raises the question of how and where will you store it without significant counterparty risk, or risk of theft.
Buying Tether and USDC means their issuers allegedly use the money to buy bonds and Bitcoin and other assets.
There is no second best. Which is why only a fool would BCA their entire stack and risk losing everything, or put the value they do exchange all into a single place. Ultimately, it comes down to the morality and trust in the counterparties chosen to temporarily hold the funds when they're not in Bitcoin self custody.
Perhaps I'll just hold dollars on Bitcoin only exchanges like River or Strike for ease of re-entry into Bitcoin when the time is right.
Though I'm looking for better ideas.

This chart appears to show diminishing returns, leading many to believe this cycle will see lower returns than 2021. It is my strong belief that this cycle will be much closer to 2017 than most realize. You are not ready for the next 9 months, you're also not ready for the following historic bear market that will see prices return to current values by Jan 2027.
The value per coin will rise to 3 - 6 times it's average mining cost before crashing 80%+, as it has done every cycle. Currently, the mining cost and the market price are nearly the same. I believe mining cost will rise to $150k - $200k while the market price will rise from $500k - $1000k over the next 6 - 10 months when peak FOMO is seen. I will personally start BCA some of my stack once we hit 3x the average mining cost, in preparation for the crash.
Don't day trade, you want more Bitcoin not more dollars. DCA when the price is around or below the cost to mine (majority of the time), but BCA when the price is significantly inflated compared to production cost which only really happens every 4th year since Bitcoin was created.

Bitcoin's FIAT price this year will reach 5+ times the average production cost to mine a Bitcoin globally before the major correction phase begins. The ratio between the FIAT price and the production cost reveals to us that it is in fact Bitcoin's FIAT price that is inflated. This price inflation is due to the mania phase of the cycle and not that the dollar is collapsing. It could be argued that buying lots of dollars at that point when they're cheap would be advantageous, as when the correction occurs they could be used to acquire much more Bitcoin and help stabilize the price long term.
But if Bitcoin's FIAT price and average production cost both go up equally, then that is the indicator that it is the dollar collapsing and not Bitcoin being overpriced. If the price of both rise quickly, and at the same rate, it is highly likely that every asset is doing the same. HODL as hard as you can in this case because this is FIAT collapse.

Completely agree. I worked as a salesman for years, and the immediate feedback of someone choosing to take the product I was selling them really boosted my moral. The more I sold in a day the happier I was when I went home, the less I sold the more I was disappointed. But either way when I was done I was done and I didn't need to worry about something hanging over my head, I was able to relax.
These days I'm no longer working for others and I'm slowly writing my own book on Bitcoin. I'm doing rather well and have almost 45k words so far, but I feel pressure to write all the time even if I'm having writers block. It feels like I NEED to finish the book soon to be able to help more people see what Bitcoin is than would otherwise happen without my book. But it's an unfair and unrealistic pressure I'm putting on myself, and I try to remember that taking more time allows me to offer the world a more refined product. I often think about how you took 5 years to write Broken Money, which was extremely well done.
If I could one day work a job 10 - 20 hours a week, maybe as a volunteer or on a part time basis, I would prefer something working directly with other people with more immediate feedback as I enjoy it so much more than working on the computer by myself.

Very interesting! I'd love to see an in depth article or chart showing the joules of the network and the joules per Bitcoin over time.
IMO the 21,000,000 number is basically irrelevant and a marketing ploy (Sacrilege!). What's more relevant is that the total supply will never be meaningfully debased, instead the new supply halves every 4 years so the energy and time input per new Bitcoin continues to grow which drags the price on the open market up along with it.
Bitcoin's market cap is capable of going significantly higher than everything else combined. Because the market cap is meaningless. The average cost of production of new coins in Time and Joules is what matters.

Bitcoin IS priced in Joules.
Bitcoin and Joules are also priced in Dollars.
Bitcoin/Joules/Dollars provide us a value tracking triangle that allows us to see if one of the markets is unbalanced.
If the price of both Bitcoin and Joules skyrocket equally, then we know it's more likely the dollar that is collapsing.
If the price of Bitcoin rises in Dollars far faster than Bitcoins price in Joules, or Joules price in Dollars, then we know that Bitcoin itself is climbing on its own due to fomo (this occurs in the last few months of the bull runs).

Over the last few months I've been asking employees at stores if they accept Bitcoin yet. In response sometimes they will ask about it, but there's really not enough time to leave them with info that would lead them away from shitcoins and scams and trading and towards Bitcoin. So I began looking for a solution.
Initially I had the idea to give physical copies of the videos I have learned from, because spending money and time creating physical copies indicate a higher value than just sending a link.
So I bought cheap flash drives and loaded them with videos to hand out. But what initially felt like a great idea, handing out the flashdrives, just felt weird. After all who would trust a random flashdrive someone gives them?
I have since found another purpose for the flash drives, and I have changed my method which I am sharing now.

After making that playlist last night, I designed and ordered for around 67,430 Sats 500 copies of a double sided business card to hand out. Now whenever someone asks me about Bitcoin, I will hand them a card after speaking with them for however long we can. I'm also going to give some to my local Bitcoin club to hand out at meetings.
People are afraid of what they don't understand, so give them a seed and they can choose to water it with curiosity if they want. We are winning and we have the ability to help accelerate adoption with minimal effort such as this.

What determines the price of 1 Bitcoin?
It is the value of the energy used to mine it.
The network itself is paying humanity for the energy needed to be both functional and secure. This value continues to grow in real terms while it drops in relative/nominal terms.
Bitcoin is paying humanity with units of itself, both declaring the value of the network overall and the value of the units within it, in exchange for the value of the energy and time fed into it for functionality and security.
It then revalues itself every 4 years against that energy when it reduces the subsidy by half. The mining network hashrate does not reduce by half to maintain the previous valuation per coin, instead it has doubled against the time and energy input by the mining network every 10 minutes.
Every time the halving occurs, the value of all Bitcoin's is declared worth twice as much time and energy as before. When the hashrate continues to climb after this declaration then we know it is accepted by the market.
This market acceptance has occurred every time and will likely continue to occur due to the fact that nothing else exists that offers direct value in exchange for energy without a middle man creating something to sell first.
Bitcoin turns all sources of electricity into sources of money. The cheaper the electricity is to create, the more money there is to be made. This changes humanities relationship with energy generation, and gives us a way to create abundant energy the likes of which the world has never seen.

Investing in any emerging technology that obsoletes previously used tech ends up profitable. Think cars vs the horse and buggy, or Internet retailers vs brick and mortar. The bigger the business the new tech displaces, the more value can be captured in the transition. Only there's literally no bigger business than central banking, so Bitcoin is more value accruing than any previous tech shift in history.

$250k being the top this time is laughable indeed.
The top will be no less than 3x the average mining cost of one coin. But could be as much as 6x.
The average mining cost grows regularly and accelerates it's growth during bull markets as higher energy prices become more affordable for mining.
The current average mining cost is $84k. If RIGHT NOW was the peak of the bull run we'd be at $252k per coin MINIMUM.
In 2017 we got to just under 6x the average mining cost at the peak. Without nation state/corporate adoption and no ETFs.
In 2021 we reached just under 3x the mining cost right when China banned mining and reduced that average by over half mid bull run!
March 19th 2021 saw an average mining cost of $20k with a price of $59k. An open market price nearly 3 times the cost to mine.
The price dipped but the mining network continued to grow, hitting $32k with a price of $37k by May 21st.
That SAME DAY china announced it's mining ban:

We were already in a dip, and it turned into a crash.
By Aug 2nd 2021 the average mining cost had plummeted more than half to $15k, and wouldn't recover to above $32k until June 2023!
This is like having Bitcoin mining banned in September of 2017 with the price at $3.6k after reaching $4.7k a few weeks prior. Would've never hit $19k if that happened, and we woould've hit almost $200k in 2021 if it hadn't.
On the currency market we will hit between 3 - 6 times the average mining cost per coin at peak next year. I expect the average mining cost to double to $160k+ which would mean we hit $500k - $1,000K+ on the open market this bull run.
BUT IT IS NOT SUSTAINABLE AT THAT PRICE. The mining network average cost is an anchor on the price. The price needs to stay close to it's marginal cost of production to be sustainable. I see tons of online posts and hear friends conversations talking about degradation of quality and increasing prices, comments blaming the greed of the businesses for having a harder time affording things.
I really think most people are so far down the rabbit hole that their lives will need to get significantly worse while Bitcoiner's lives just improve around them for them to realize we're right and not just crack pots who don't know what we're talking about.
I have some friends who have outright told me they just don't care about what I've learned about Bitcoin and money, that I'm not an economist.

Humans, when given the opportunities and education to know the best courses of action to avoid consequences of their actions, are generally reasonable and responsible people. I do think highly of well informed people with resources at their fingertips, but that is not the state of the world today.
Most people are deliberately kept in the dark with abstinence only education being the dominant education on sex given to hormone filled teenagers in conservative controlled countries such as much of the United States. There are also groups that fight contraceptive access and that discourage condom use, these are mostly religious groups who view pregnancy as divine punishment for women that shouldn't be avoided.
I think we agree more than disagree here. Expand access to contraceptives and expand education on safe sex practices, rather than just telling people "no sex! sex bad!" as is basically currently the case, and unwanted pregnancies and abortions would naturally plummet. That's what we all want, less unwanted pregnancies and less abortions.
Just because I'm pro-choice doesn't mean I'm not also pro-life, but I believe consent of the woman and a desire and ability to care for the child in a safe environment free from abuse should be what every child born should expect. Children should be born only to people that want them and can effectively care for them, they should not be forced to be born to someone who doesn't love them and is likely to abuse or neglect them.

I apologize for my less collected final paragraph from my last message. Other than your views being similar to those following religious ideologies, there's nothing directly tying what you said to religion. I was assuming but am glad you are not religious.
I obviously do not agree that abortions are murder, abortions are induced miscarriages and even if not induced somewhere between 10 - 40% of pregnancies naturally miscarry. There are significant problems with making abortion illegal, including that women who miscarry naturally sometimes get prosecuted for a crime they did not commit when they are already suffering a loss that's just made worse by the legal system.
There are also higher risks involved with birth than with abortion, with more women dying in childbirth than through abortion. Doctor's and their patients should be allowed to have final say on this not only due to that general risk, but it would also avoid cases we see where the pregnancy has a high likelihood of becoming life threatening if not terminated early but the doctor's are too afraid of legal prosecution to proceed with necessary treatment to save the woman.
Fetuses are not babies, not while they threaten the life and well being of the women carrying them. Women with true bodily autonomy should not be compelled to risk their lives and well being to bring to term a fetus they do not want or are not equipped to care for just because they had sex. This is not good for the woman or the child born to a home with no love for them.
Until we advance technologically enough to support fetuses outside the womb (and advance economically enough to support them to adulthood without putting undo burden on anyone through more taxes that pay for the support of children without willing parents), then removing consent unfortunately leads to the death of the fetus. Consent for sex does not equal consent to maintain life threatening pregnancy. But I know you disagree on this, so let's agree to disagree.
Also, even though we disagree so far (and you rudely keep calling my responses nonsense when they are not, with the exception of the last paragraph in my previous message), you have my respect for engaging on a touchy subject for as long as we have.
In response to the land/voting issue:
Voting is what ultimately makes the rules, so if only those who own land can vote then only those who own land can make the rules. Now just because I do not agree that ONLY those who own land should vote, doesn't mean I disagree on your principle view that only those who are invested in the jurisdiction should be able to vote on its policies. I actually agree with you partially.
Personally I like the idea that you only get a vote once you live in a jurisdiction for a period of let's say 5 years, you get another vote if you purchase and live on that land as well for that 5 years. So after 5 years renters invested their time, while owners invested both their time and money (which is just preserved time). After maybe 10 more years each would get another vote or 2 based on these criteria and then after maybe another 20 years another.
This would allow those less invested due to financial circumstances a chance to vote based on their time invested alone which I think is fair. It also provides a decent amount of time lag before changes of law could occur due to high levels of immigration, providing some level of legal stability to current citizens whose voting power would also increase as the new residents gain voting power.
This is another reason I like Blockchain tech, because only those who actually invest time and effort to run nodes get to influence the direction of the network by participating in the consensus of network updates. Users don't get to vote, they just to benefit from the network as it is.
Back to the draft, seems we overall agree. However the selective service was started by Congress in 1940, it was not voted on by the public, only 1 representative was female and she did vote yea although it would've passed without her vote anyway.
I don't understand your position or justification to remove women from being able to vote in their representative government based on an act that was passed by almost entirely men that applied to only men, and that the public has no say in. Reproductive rights refer to more than just abortion, there are groups advocating for the prohibition of contraceptives as well.
As for current states. When a government threatens doctors with prison time over providing abortions they deem necessary for the care of their patients, that the state has no business policing, then the state controls reproductive rights at the expense of the consent of those directly involved.
We do not currently have a state that tells people they're not allowed to have children, but many countries have in the 20th century committed forced sterilization of "undesirables" including the United States. Allowing state control over ANY aspect of reproduction is a slippery slope that is difficult to climb out of. Be careful what you wish for.

There is nothing more simultaneously ineffective and effective at prevention pregnancy than abstinence.
Abstinence as an action in the moment is the most effective method of contraception, this is not something anyone argues with.
But abstinence as a policy for long term birth control is the least effective way of preventing pregnancy. People want to have sex, full stop.
All humans are biologically driven to breath, drink water, eat food, and have sex to reproduce.
People are recommended not to eat unhealthy, yet the physical drive to eat that is taken advantage of by all the processed foods give us a society with pandemic levels of obesity and diabetes.
Similarly recommending people to just not have sex, is not effective at preventing it.

Until the system is fixed so that people even in extreme poverty both know how (and are able) to build up their ability to afford access to contraceptives through their own efforts, impossible with FIAT currencies debasing savings and wages, forced birth is nothing but a punishment of further impoverishment for those who cannot afford contraceptives and choose to have sex anyway. Preventing doctors from providing care that they are the most qualified and informed to be able to effectively provide, through prohibitions on abortion, is a way of controlling reproduction and preventing adequate care of the women involved.

Since Nostr is both a public way to share and save things permanently, I wanted to save/share a sobering comment from reddit about a woman's right to choose.
Regardless of your current view as Pro-Choice or Pro-Life, you likely are a well meaning person trying to do good based on the information you have been exposed to so far. That's commendable and I applaud your efforts to do what you believe will improve the world. That's what we all want, a better world for everyone. We have to communicate to find the best way to do it with the least amount of suffering.
If you are currently pro-life please know that I especially want to hear what your response is to the post below. From the data I have seen pro-choice policies reduce unnecessary suffering of everyone involved by preventing children from being born to people who are unequipped to care for them, and into situations where they are unwanted, unloved, and abused.
On #Reddit (as with all traditional social media) there is often no conversation, just isolated silos. Echo chambers where views are never discussed across a community table like they used to be.
Without open dialogue between people as to their reasons for holding their opposing views there can be no progress.
If Nostr hopes to be an online renewal of the open community forum, where real discussions can take place to find a better way forward for everyone, then I take a step in that direction by sharing the following comment in the hopes of stimulating honest non-hostile discussion. But, when he was born, all the people who promised to help disappeared faster than her patience did when that baby cried and she was on day four of a methamphetamine binge. In the end, the only support she had was a methamphetamine addiction and a boyfriend with a nasty temper and even less patience than she did for that tiny, unwanted soul she brought into this world.
So, she had him and eight months later, she proved everyone who told her she couldn’t kill her baby wrong by allowing his life to be taken in a fit of rage, methamphetamine and the fists of a man who just wanted him to STOP. FUCKING. CRYING. ALREADY. And the only thing she could say was, “I told them I never wanted this. I said I never wanted him. Why did they make me have him? I want my mother.” But her mother had been dead since she was 10.
I know this because I was the first CPS investigator on the scene and I covered her little brother’s head with my coat and gave her my beanie, so they didn’t see the damage their father’s bullet did to the side of their mother’s head. Amy was a beautiful woman and her daughters look just like her....even in their mugshots.
Even when they’re trying to explain why their boyfriend shook and beat their baby to death. This one looks especially like Amy. This daughter perpetuated that cycle and her baby was collateral damage, I suppose.
Maybe if I had given her my coat to cover her head with, as I led her and her sibling out of the house, so they didn’t see their mother’s head shattered by their father’s bullet, she would have traveled a different path. But I didn’t give her my coat.
She was older. I thought she’d be able to cover her head better. So I gave her my beanie and I gave her sibling my coat and I covered their heads and told them not to look at Mama. I told them to keep walking and don’t look down. I said I was right there with them.
That’s why I gave her my coat this time and as she was being led out in handcuffs, I told her, “I’m going to cover your head. Don’t look down. Don’t look at the baby. Just keep walking. I’ve got you. I’m right here with you.” It’s funny. After all of these years, that’s what I blame myself for. That I didn’t give her my coat. That maybe, just maybe, if I had given her my coat instead, I wouldn’t have stood looking down at her dead son years later.
I don’t know what the last thing that baby saw was, but I pray it wasn’t the fist that ended his life or the face of the demon that ended his life or the woman who was supposed to be his protector. I still dream about him. I still dream about that coat.
The people who screech about how a woman does not have the right to terminate a pregnancy are always silent when they are questioned about what THEY are doing for their local foster care agencies. They rarely lobby at their state capitols for more funding for child welfare agencies and preventative programs to assist children and families in need.
They rarely, if ever, volunteer their time and money to support children in foster care or foster parents. Instead, they’d rather post hateful, judgmental vitriol on social media about women in difficult situations they know nothing about. They’re content to talk about what women should or should not be able to do. They’re content to pass judgment about a woman’s choices. But when they actually have to look at the consequences of those choices....well, that’s a conversation 99.9% of them are willing to sit out on.
People like your sister can screech about how abortion is murder. They can cry about the poor babies who never drew a breath. But you won’t see them doing anything for the babies that are breathing and living in foster care. The children that are living in homeless shelters. Amethyst doesn't have a built in wallet like Primal, on primal I don't see any fees when sending or receiving zaps while on amethyst there are transaction fees when I try to send a zap with phoenix wallet.
Any suggestions on how to zap without fees? I like to zap 10 - 21 sats most of the time, with amethyst and Phoenix I pay 2 sats as a fee which is 10 - 20% of the zap.

Therefore, there is nothing the average person can put their time and energy into that is a more moral action than simply helping grow Bitcoin in any way they can.

I already request Bitcoin as payment, request Bitcoin as a way to pay, and refer to FIAT as the "legacy financial system". Does anyone else I know do these things? Not yet, but they will.

How does Bitcoin stop wars?
By eliminating the different types of theft governments use to fund them.
Under the FIAT system governments just print the money needed to go to war, this is theft from their own people through the debasement of savings and wages. They can't do that with Bitcoin.
Under the Gold Standard governments would raize cities, killing everyone, and take the victim's gold from the rubble to continue paying for the war. This is theft from foreign citizens. They can't do that with Bitcoin, the citizens know how to access their Bitcoin savings and killing them destroys that information.
Bitcoin doesn't eliminate all theft, but it makes it significantly harder to steal. That friction makes war far more costly for governments to wage.
