@npub1gda…vpnc ahhh, XFA forms. This is going to sound weird, but try opening it in Firefox. Like literally drag-n-drop the file into your tab bar in Firefox to open the file locally and see if that lets you view and edit it.

#LifeProTip for all #VSCode users on #linux: If all of the menus at the top of the window look like they came from Google Chrome, you can fix it by going to File > Preferences > Settings > search for "appearance" > Windows: Title Bar Style and set it to "custom". Then restart VSCode. It will make your VSCode window look like a Windows 11 window, but at least it's better than the massive menu items, rounded corners, and other distinctive Chrome design elements that leak through otherwise.

Took apart an old laptop to reseat a cable, put it back together, tried to turn it on. No dice, screen was blank and the Caps Lock key linked at me three times. So I Google'd why, and found out that three blinks on this laptop means a RAM issue.
I looked over at the two sticks of RAM that were in the computer, still sitting on my desk.
I just literally tried to boot a laptop without RAM.

You can run multiple commands as a single "block" in Bash using C-style braces. This can be useful for error handling - you can do things like "cd /mydir || { echo "could not cd to /mydir"; exit 1;};" Make sure to remember the semicolon on the last command before the closing brace though, or Bash won't be able to figure out where the block ends.

I just had a patch that I sent to the Ubuntu Kernel Team get (reasonably) rejected because I failed to send the patch itself as a reply to the patch intro, thus messing up email organization.
I attempted to resubmit said patch... and ended up submitting the patch intro as its own thing, and then two additional copies (yes, two!) of the patch as replies to the first copy of the patch, rather than as replies to the patch intro.
Sometimes email hates my very existence.

Aftermath of the story - I don't know C that well. The function did not, in fact, simply say 'return false;', it just looked like it because I was looking at what was more of like a forward declaration or a template, and the actual function code was elsewhere.

Tonight's rabbit hole has me grepping through the entire Ubuntu kernel source code to find the reason one particular function is returning 'false'... only to discover that the entire function body of the component ultimately responsible for the issue is one line - "return false;".
Now I get to clone the entire Linux Git repository to my local machine so I can figure out what this function used to do and why it no longer does it.

I wish laptop batteries were still made the way they used to be. I have a Lenovo 3000 C200 machine here, 32-bit, 1 GB RAM. The thing is almost 20 years old (released in 2006), appears to still have its OEM battery, it's so old parts of the hardware are showing signs of failure... and the battery still works like a champ. It's wild.

Welp, I'm on a roll tonight. First I installed #Haiku (a BeOS clone) without fully wiping the old Debian installation off the disk, so that didn't work, then I did a proper install... and forgot to mark the partition as active. 🤦 I may or may not emerge with a working install by the end of the night if this keeps up :P

I need a terminal that, when I try to open a new instance of it, it just pops open my existing terminal window with a new terminal tab (as opposed to making a whole new window). I keep finding myself with anywhere from three to ten spare terminals open and wondering "how did I do this?!"
