My initial post wasn’t related at all to either Bitcoin, nor to how specific parties voted particular laws. If you’d like to make your voice heard and have a say in this, I’d suggest reaching out to your local MEPs in order to share your views or even educate them if you feel that they don’t fully understand the topics they’re voting on.
Nevertheless, my point was that the EU has finally brought peace and democracy to our continent. Thus we should be thankful that we can roam freely between most countries in Europe, without being afraid that a new war will start between us. The irony is that the EU itself will be the end of the EU, instead of an external factor.
The slow destruction of the European identity and culture has already started a decade ago, accelerated by improper handling of the refugee crisis, illegal immigration and lack of willing work force. Low EU birth rates also actively contribute to this issue.
Unfortunately, this will continue if not properly managed. So, be sure to make a lot of babies and support better immigration policies, both at the national level, as well as EU-wide.

The concept of relays is new to everyone, so that's a first step they need to get acquainted with. Also the fact that they need to save their nsec somewhere safe and that they can't change it. Yes, the overall concepts of posts and followers are the same, but those are not the main onboarding components.

This is not a priority because apparently some are more focused on things like building contract management systems or reinventing website hosting on top of nostr, instead of fixing real problems that the protocol is currently battling with.
It's all about trying to get a group of devs that know precisely *what* Nostr lacks in order to succeed. Since currently we're at a point in which most devs are basically going in their own direction, instead of focusing on the real issues at hand.

What if relays add support for ads only for the users that are not paying? It can also be incorporated at a protocol level, so that clients are also aware of each relay's ads (for better feed ordering) and maybe also report back to the relay impressions and clicks per each ad.
That way, relays could monetize ads from publishers only for people that are not subscribing. And the ads won't be targeted as they currently are on social media these days, because the relay doesn't know anything about each user's identity.

@npub1226…grkj is now trying a subscription model for Eden and atlas relays. I think this is the correct and sustainable way going forward.
However, I think we need a better UX for this. Probably each client having its own relay and asking for a subscription in order to sustain itself. If the user decides not to pay, then he can still use the client, but won't have access to it's associated relay.
Not sure how Primal is doing it though. @npub16c0…6nvr, do you plan on implementing such a system?

That's probably because clients such as Damus don't check for trailing slashes on URLs. So if you're not paying attention, you end up adding the same URL twice. Once with trailing slash, another time without.
Another example of the need for better onboarding and UX in the Nostr space.

A contract requires a valid signature in order to be legal. That signature can either be hand written or electronic (using software specifically recognised and vetted as a trust service provider by the government), depending on the government rules. In some countries, a notary is also required, but let’s leave that out of the conversation, since it doesn’t affect the topic.
Good luck getting a decentralised network accepted as a trust service provider if it’s not even fully embraced as a social network… Who’s going to promote it as a TSP to governments? Who’s going to use it apart from the 3 guys that wrote the NIP?
And that brings us to the other aspect of it. How do you expect that to work, if Nostr fails as a social network and most of the relays die with it? Who’s gonna sign your legal documents then?
Again… fantasies…
Now don’t get me wrong, creativity is always awesome and we shouldn’t let it die away. It’s also very fun and exciting to have at it with ideas such as this one. But that’s the thing. They’ll end up being just that. Ideas.

That’s why I’m saying that in the long run, Nostr is the better choice for messaging compared to SimpleX, where if you need to switch devices on the go, you lose all your messages.

The same thing happens if you lose your password, so that's not really any different.
As for the public key issue, just like I mentioned initially, the metadata is being exposed, but again, is that such big of a problem? It's like having your followers list set to public instead of private. I personally don't think that's such a big issue.
Furthermore, there is currently some progress being made in this direction in trying to anonymize this data as well. So even this last hurdle could be fixed.
I still think Nostr DMs are a better solution overall than either Simplex or Keet. Both of which lack the option of sharing the chat between multiple devices (as chats are not long lived on a server) and the overall UX is horrendous (for Simplex you need to start a conversation with the other person while being physically in the same place, since you don't have a long lived unique identifier).

This is a *very* good question. I would also throw in Nostr DMs into that comparison as well, as I believe one of these 3 have the best chance of being the global communication protocol in the future.
I've looked at all 3 and tbh I think that Nostr is still the best choice, even though some people don't like that in it's current form, it exposes chat metadata.

From the Elements documentation (https://elementsproject.org/how-it-works), on top of which Liquid (https://liquid.net/governance) is built upon. By definition, it is the antithesis of #bitcoin, as it employs centralization in the hands of a few companies.
Sure, they try to mask it with a layer of democracy on top (through their annual 3 Federation Boards re-election), but don’t be fooled. It’s a #bitcoin masked version of a FED.
Stop trying to come up with solutions to problems that don’t exist. #bitcoin and #lightning already solve the entire monetary system. The only thing that we’re currently missing is a decentralised marketplace which runs on #bitcoin. And that’s currently being tackled by either CivKit (https://github.com/civkit/paper/blob/main/civ_kit_paper.pdf) or similar projects.
Focus on the right tech and disregard the rest. Otherwise we’re wasting all our collective time.
