the rainbow glitter print surfaces are kind of hard to print on! I wanted to print a lil cinderwing baby dragon but the little vertebrae started curling off the bed even after i managed a decent first layer
I think I probably need to up the bed heat to like 70, up the first layer heat, bring down the first layer speed properly instead of as a mid-print adjustment...
you can't use an adhesive because that defeats the purpose
edit: oh right and maybe try a 0.3mm first layer. the OLD tricks

What's it like to not have humidity or whatever problems with PETG. I had a spool on the hydrator for hours, forgot about it until bedtime, put it away in my bin and got it out to print two mornings later. Absolutely full of bubbles

finally got around to trying vase mode PETG at 270° on the mini, and it worked even better than I hoped. i printed the garlic container top with a 0.4mm nozzle and it it doesn't break apart at all when I flex it around - even though it's got areas that are essentially 45° overhangs

so the 'filament got caught and jammed in the extruder gear section and started grinding dust everywhere' thing just happened IMMEDIATELY the moment I tried to put prusa galaxy black PLA into my mini, which leads me to think this is a tricky filament not compatible with this machine and I should only use it in my ender 3 🙄
i was going to just do *two short prints* today but nooo

cannot believe how much trouble i was having due to the imperfectly fitting hotend sock blocking the mini's part cooling fan 🙃 I believe that was behind most of the stringing, now that i'm running a couple tests. also feel silly for not cluing in sooner

suddenly i had a revelation: my nozzle sock i added to my mini may be blocking the part cooling fan (which i've heard is already a bit on the weak side)
stupid if true (but would explain their lack of a default sock) (i need to get one that fits better just in case)

Full disclosure: Prusa featured my Spiral Vase Rose two years ago and that traffic, plus Prusa/Printables putting Spiral Vase Hibiscus on the homepage for a week or so, are how this has been possible. Traffic from that one design is also why it's most worthwhile for me to sell on Printables, at least for now. I get about 3.50 per $5 sale (before taxes, but I'm not thinking about that QUITE yet)

hey uh... should my new smooth pei sheet from prusa be warping/swelling up ever so slightly under the spot where i've printed the same small object about 10 times now? 🤔 there are also more tiny air bubbles in the pei surface in the middle but i had figured that was just normal since i can see them all over (similar to with poured resin) #3dprinting

@npub1yrl…8gpm I did wear nitrile gloves for the main lubrication stuff, but there was some excess after that that I wasn't wearing gloves for ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ my dominant fingertips got extra dry and i'm trying to figure out why. although other possibilities include 'i was touching a mostly solid coffee reduction i made and didn't wash it off good'

Printed a 2cm spiral vase rose! With a 0.4mm nozzle actually set to 0.4mm line width, it slices that small but will break if you go down to 15mm. (Printed at 0.1mm layer height.)
I've seen people print em tiny but I wanted to try for myself. #3dprinting

I can confirm that this wobbling isn't due to issues with bed adhesion. in my case, at least, because the stem is thin enough to be a bit elastic in PLA, it ends up wobbling around because the nozzle is slightly hitting/pushing up against the filament it's printing on top of. I also *know* i lose z-steps -- i've never put in the work to fix it because I rarely print tall things, and when I do I can usually get it to work anyway

I accounted for possible factors (releveled the bed, made sure to put the glue stick on good, not having possible vibrations from top-mounted filament) and the 60° hibiscus stem came out clean, although I see it *starting* to have problems with elastic wobbling toward the top (probably because my z axis loses steps with tall things)
Next I will test the 70° version, and the spiral version

Tried out my sample of True Gold V2 PLA from Atomic Filament to print my final version of the spinny triforce earring. I think it looks nice, although it's a bit difficult to match to earring findings -- maybe a dark bronze color would work better for those?

@npub1yrl…8gpm @npub12at…me5y the one thing I've used gyroid for that i think it might be good for, assuming you came up with an application of it that was actually practical, is for drawing water up via capillary action. I used it once to experiment with growing wheat grass seeds placed on top of a printed piece of gyroid infill (in a container with a water level below the top of the printed object)
